Does flame shock really need a cooldown?

If its just me who feels this way, I’ll shut up about it, but with how crucial flame shock is, at least to elemental, is there a reason we can only throw one out every 3 GCDs (with the CDR talent)? Off the top of my head im not aware of another dps spec that has a cooldown on its core DoT.

Fire ele builds are growing on me but I think its strange that the only efficient way it has to spread FS en masse is a one minute cooldown from a choice node.

I guess i could see it getting a bit nutty in pvp with prim. wave, but im also not convinced that ele is in a position of pvp dominance to the point where meatballs flying everywhere would be a bad thing.

Again, if its just me, ill shut up.

Once upon a time (back in Legion), flame shock didn’t have a cooldown. You could spread it to your heart’s content. And even then, Ele wasn’t considered an OP spec. It was actually considered a challenge to do well in PvP on an Ele shaman.

I came back to WoW in Legion after an 8 year hiatus, and never played shaman before that so I don’t know what flame shock’s status was before then. But to answer the question, no, I don’t think it needs a cooldown.

Elemental has had plenty of things - no cooldown flame shock, casting lightning bolt while moving, gust of wind

None of these made the spec overbearing. You can argue the guaranteed DR on Stuns in WotLK is overpowered, but its also 100% the only reason Elemental is viable during that time frame. Because otherwise, it’d roll over and die just like it does now.

It’s difficult to guage Blizzard for shaman pvp, because normally, even when enh/ele are gutter, Resto is fine…but Resto is gutter this xpac as well.

I’ve just been playing around with Elemental and I’ve found the CD on flame shock to be a reason I don’t like playing the class. It’s critical to have out on as many as possible, but it feels clunky waiting to spread it.

agreed 100%.
Flame shocks damage over time is so low does it even matter if you spread it to 5 or more?
Honestly i spend a considerable amount of time in my mental rotation watching the time remaining on flame shock on the enemy and waiting for flame shock to finish cool down.
So much more to be doing with a shaman that watching flame shock, especially when its dot is so low

Surge of power along with Pwave is how I spread. Easily have 3-5 ticking at all times. Remember to spread with your fire elemental out makes it last 100% longer.

SoP, Pwave, LMT.

If you are playing a fire build you should be running these.

You can also run CoE talent to reduce the CD of LMT.

Otherwise 4.5 sec CD on FS isnt bad at all.
