I see griefing all the time in WoW, and I see none in XIV.
The games are not the same, because one is actively designed to prevent griefing, and the other doesn’t care if you get griefed or not.
In XIV, the game is designed around a player being able to DIY most stuff most normal players would want or need. The market is more for people who want to do endgame crafting, or those who are lazy.
In WoW, not so much. To be completely DIY, you’re asked to do a lot of grinding and encouraged to go buy junk off the AH at ludicrously inflated prices if you want to get something done at any reasonable time-frame.
The botting in XIV is therefore inconsequential, and at worst, a minor annoyance that is easily avoided. Some /say bots in town are the least of one’s problems. Better than all of the obvious RMT bots in WoW picking herbs/mining ore/etc getting in your way when you want to go harvest, especially Oxxein.
XIV has some bots too, but keep in mind: Mining in XIV is way better than in WoW. A bot’s presence doesn’t hurt you like it does in WoW.

Every MMO suffers from bots and gold buying.
ffxiv pvp is terrible. do not play ffxiv if you want pvp.
you play ffxiv if you want community and to socialize, or pve. pve is really enjoyable, it’s more like a rhythm, and the music is great. but ffxiv shines in it’s way easier to get into communities, hangout and do other stuff, and alot more. there’s just so much to do in ffxiv that raiding isn’t the only thing to do.
but if you want to be the best raider or best pvp-er, you might find new world a better option for pvp and for pve…not sure lol, no game does pve exceptionally well these days.
Might want to hold off on that opinion; they are working on PvP for November’s expansion. Who knows, it could be good afterwards.
EDIT: I myself don’t care one way or the other, as long as PvP stays its own thing and doesn’t get in my way. Which I doubt it would, as the game is designed as a co-op game first.
This is all that matters though.
A larger store doesn’t mean it’s detrimental to the game like WoW’s store is. FF isn’t designed around Token Sales like WoW is.
That’s literally my point.
185k doesn’t even buy you a boost.
Not to be picky here, but this is not necessarily the case. Botting was brought on by games prioritizing solo content. If you can solo, you can bot easily. I played EQ many years ago, and soloing was not an option, neither were bots.
FFXIV PvP and PvE honestly gets a bad rep.
But thanks to all of the bad talk about FFXIVs PvE, it has ended up surprising some of WoW’s better mythic raiders and they have come to actually enjoy the FFXIV raids, finding them fairly challenging and more importantly, fun to go into blind.
Why is it fun to go into a raid blind one might think? Because the mechanics are not vague and are fairly logical, you can look at it and figure out what to do - for some it may take some time, but there is no need to look up an extendend video guide to learn how to do a raid in FFXIV, you’ll learn.
PvP likewise have been talked so terribly about, that most are genuinely surprised by how fairly fun it can be.
That is the best one can offer FFXIV, to talk so much trash about it that people end up pleasantly surprised.

Okay, but when Everquest was a thing and was popular, botting technology was not as advanced as it is now. So perhaps the reason why there weren’t problems with botting back then is that botting as a whole was niche.
Right now, bots exist and are causing problems on Everquest because bots have evolved since the good old days when Everquest was one of the most popular MMOs.
