Does evoker get less clunky?

Playing an Evoker for the first time and everything feels soooo clunky. Almost everything is a cast, either long, or even longer if it’s empowered. The empowered system, while interesting, isn’t fun. The class feels incredibly immobile with hover not being castable while casting (I know I can increase the duration of it later)… but having to stop your cast so you can cast while moving kind of defeats the purpose of the skill I feel like.

Just wondering if the later talents/set pieces make the class feel more fluid or if it always has this playstyle of needing to cast everything

I’ve been playing it at max level for too long to speak to leveling, but evoker and specifically dev have the smoothest gameplay of almoist any DPS class, and I’ve played almost everything at a decent level.

Hover uptime is almost permanent at max level, and you are almost never hard casting outside of empowers.

Yes it will absolutely feel better once you unlock core mechanics of the spec. You’re effectively the most mobile caster in the game because you’ll have massive uptime with hover. If you really wanted to, you could get up to 5 charges of hover in the scalecommander hero talents.

Two charges of hover baseline (with Aerial Mastery talent), Time Spiral to reset one hover charge, deep breath (with slipstream hero talent) to reset all charges.

Quick side note: I notice a lot of beginner evokers fall into an easy trap of how to use your empower abilities. Don’t go thinking you have to fully empower your abilities for maximum effect. They are completely situational as to how they should be used.

Example: fire breath does the same exact damage regardless of charging from rank 1 vs rank 3. The only difference is rank 3 provides more up-front damage with less damage over time. Where as rank 1 provides less up-front damage, but much more damage over time. Again, both ranks provide the same amount of damage once both go through their full duration.

I would recommend reading a beginner guide on this stuff if and when you reach max level.

Amazing! Thank you for the replies! I definitely have been using empowered abilities wrong, and close-to permanent uptime on hover sounds very appealing

Get in the habit of using hover during the GCD of an instant cast ability  It’s a game changer. Use the instant cast ability first, and then hover immediately after. You don’t lose any globals that way.

Get it to max level, choose Scalemander Hero tree. Enjoy!
