So I know every class will obviously improve with better gear, but I’m curious if disc priest is heavily gear reliant and whether it sucks compared to other healers at lower gear.
Yes and no.
Azerite traits can be very important to them, and a decent chunk of haste is needed to cover people in time (luckily they can get pretty much all of it from compendium right now).
So if you’re willing to purchase/make the trinket, you can be fairly effective off the bat so long as you know what you’re doing.
I dont think any healer is gear reliant unless there are exceptional items, ie glimmer and velens in legion come to mind. But gear for gear i think knowing how to heal is more important. In WoD i was regularly outgeared by 15 lvls by the other healers and would be second on heals as hpriest against the top heals a disc.
I would honestly say every healer is gear dependent because if you’re iLvl 90 and trying to heal a iLvl 120 tank that has 30k+ HP you’re going to have a rough time because your heals are relatively small compared to a healer of the same iLvl as the tank.
Focus on improving your play before thinking about gear. You can heal as disc with any stat arrangement.
Obviously if you’re under geared trying to run harder content, you’re going to struggle. This is true for any healer.
He did say gear to excel, which i kinda missed to. Gear doesn’t make you excel. how you play does
That’s like saying a Shadow Priest without triple Shadowy Apparitions azerite armor traits can beat somebody that has them.
if you look back at my earlier post i mentioned
the azerite pces kinda merit that.
when i think gear i think the basics. not the
extra things that skew the ball game like glimmer did with hpallies.
I think we have all seen very geared players who sucked eggs. skill over gear.
also excel is an interesting word really. i think if 2 disc priests had the same gear, the one who would excel is the one had more skill, if you get my drift. At work so i may be jumbling it.
Im not saying gear has no impact. Its the word excel thats the cruz part of his question. wordplay really but i work in a court.
Yeah, I’m with Daketh.
Disc isn’t any more gear reliant than any other class or spec.
Better gear equals bigger/faster numbers.
But skill trump’s gear all day(and night).
For me personally, after I got my gear over the 100 ilvl(or so, trying to remember the old numbers and scaling)things went a lot smoother. My damage felt better for questing and getting kills in PvP and hence my Attonement felt like it was doing more.
I’m currently at around 125ish.
But this is just anecdotal. Also, most classes feel better with some moderate amount of gear.
Classes in general aren’t nearly as gear reliant nor do they suffer from good/bad scaling as they previously did because the way stats work now and the way things have all been normalized over time.
It is true that in the past(relative ancient past) some classes would scale really well(like Rogues and Arms with good weapons)but these days it’s all much more normalized.
Not sure if I made a point of not but yeah.
Knowing when to Attone, and when to use cooldowns while doing your damage rotation well enough to pop off while keeping your eyes on the action is worth at least 50 ilvls of gear.
