Does conquest usually carry over to the next season or does it get converted to gold or some other currency?
No, it gets converted into gold at the end of the current season.

I was wondering if should just save it or try out different pieces.
I was thinking they would put in a conquest box for alts by about now but I don’t see one, it’s probably safe to just try out new pieces.

Honor resets to zero though, right?
Honor also gets converted to gold.

Conquest is not carried over, but I never noticed them doing the gold conversion in SL. (At least, in the old expacs you would get a piece of mail about the conversion, but I never got any mail in SL and if there was in fact a conversion it was for a nominal amount.)
Honor carried over to every new season in SL, so you could buy and upgrade a couple of slots on patch day if you had maxed out at 15,000. I have not seen anything suggesting that this won’t be the case in DF, too.
It would be nice if they gave us more to buy with Conquest once our characters are at max ilvl.
The box is already in game, 375 conquest for a random Crimson Gladiator piece for your alts, I already sent 3 to a recent level up alt
