Neat is an interesting way to put it. And there is no anger here my friend.
It’s a little bit like asking if Kevin Feige liked the Marvel Phase 4 story. Publicly he had to be positive about it. Privately I think he knew it wasn’t good, that the MCU had exhausted its last “good” story with Endgame, and that whatever long term plans they had, it wouldn’t come close to matching the hype of their best days.
Fair, but not sure it’s an unearned one.
I think WoW’s writing took a huge plunge in quality from BFA, and the only thing even close to decent is TWW. Metzen left in 2016, meaning he got to work on a lot of BFA… but there was a full year and some change before its release where he was no longer at the company.
BFA’s issue - from what it sounds like according to leaks - there was no one there who challenged Afrasiabi and he made a lot of 11th hour changes (like Teldrissel) that broke characters and made the story awful.
TWW’s story was likely mostly finished by the time Metzen returned, but it’s clear he made some changes - just given how much more interesting this story is than Dragonflight’s, which seemed to be an overcorrection from Shadowlands - Shadowlands was bold, audacious and terribly written whereas Dragonflight was timid, safe and terribly written. Both were bad in different ways, but DF was significantly less offensive since it didn’t ruin pre-existing lore.
It must be creepy to have an image in the public consciousness that starts being assigned opinions and takes on a life of its own without your input.
I heard Chris Metzen plays ESO.
He helped with it, so I’m sure he’s loving it.
They really do. I remember when this forum was clowning him because of his green Jesus phase in cata and calling him a thrall fanboi and how he hates the alliance. Shoes on the other foot now.
Don’t blaspheme against our lord and savior Metzhen the Messiah
I don’t think it matters but he seems to believe the story is “heating up.” I’m not feeling the warmth though.
WoW is a goofy game.
Metzen would probably not tell you the truth but I think he stands behind it after the tweaks they were able to do in time and midnight/last titan.
Personally I’ve seen an improvement in TWW and I think midnight will just get better and last titan. It’s a rule of cool thing also and a glaring issue was how they dealt with xa’latath when alleria ruined her dark heart thingie… just felt predictable and SUPER goofy + over done. I would have enjoyed a different reaction there from her.
He loves it… I heard from my cousins friend.
He’s a helluva marketer lol… might be thinking since midnight has more of his input, that it is when things will start ‘‘heating up’’.
I’m thinking we get to Midnight and he pushes the claims of incoming heat to The Last Titan. Because you’re right, he’s a marketer.
They brought him back to generate hype. He came back to make a buck.
The way people talk about Metzen I wonder if they actually read fiction.
I was excited at first when they announced Metzen was back, but I quickly realized all they were doing was using an icon from better times to mask a really bad story. “Bring out the greatest hype man in Warcraft history because we need it.”
Considering he’s been back at blizzard since December 2022, I would imagine he’s probably partially responsible for war within and doesn’t find it goofy at all.
Nah. You can tell Chris’ last major involvement was w/ Legion because the story was actually good. It was his intended swansong when he first retired before coming back as an “advisor”.
Honestly, his advisor role is probably pretty comfy if I had to guess. I’m assuming he’s not writing anything anymore, and is just nudged once in a while to confirm if what they are writing will destroy WoW lore (like they did w/ the Jailer when he was gone).
Also, with how good the Human and Orc heritage quests were, I assume he had a hand in those as well.
Louder for the people in the back!
I believe you think it’s goofy af and just want to tell yourself that the guy you think is cool definitely agrees with you.
