Exactly as the title says. I am curious.
A lot of people will use the Musician add-on, but only players who also have this add-on can hear it. Others prefer to make a youtube playlist of songs they are ICly playing and make tinyurl links to share in chat in parentheses.
It may go something like this…
Mailang sits down on the platform, placing the drum of her erhu in her lap. She leaned the long wooden neck against her shoulder and readied the bow against the two strings. “Evening, everyone. I’ll be playing a few songs for you this evening. The first is a pretty one that reminds me of summer festivals back home as a child…” (music link at tinyurl .com/XYZ)
And then proceed to emote playing for the duration of the song. Usually a few little paragraphs throughout. Some people, if singing, will also post the lyrics. Other just emote strumming, plucking, tapping, etc. until a song ends.
But really, you can do it however you like.

My god, there’s an addon for that?! I was just going to link to videos of my characters in Lord of the Rings Online playing music on their lutes!

Is there a list of musical instrument toys? I know of the Piccolo of dancing flame (?) but are there any others? At the inn in Ashran there is an npc Draenei playing a harp, so the animation for that is there. . . just curious.
There are unfortunately very few equipable instrument items, which I think is lame. If all those Pandaren in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms can play instruments, the mechanics are there.

Ya a lot of folks will use the musician addon and emote playing whatever instruments they icly want to show they are playing
There are also a few weapons in the game that look like guitars and bass
I was sad about Weatherstock being cancelled/postponed this year.
Hope they find a new date soon.

This is how I RP a violin whilst having a small radio play in the background. I prefer this over the musician add-on but to each their own ^-^ RP how you want to.
