Used to love it for RP purposes but after unlocking the Winterpelt language I realized they changed it to only understand other race’s language in your own faction. Any specific reason why?
No fun allowed.
Verbal abuse.
It’s why they made the whole divide of alliance and horde languages.
You ever seen a competitive game chat, like League of Legends? That’s what it was…but bigger…and there wasn’t a set time for the game to finish.
That doesn’t make much sense though, unless it was specifically because of Thalassian, since we could only speak our faction’s race’s languages.
Besides, you can use that elixir that allows you to speak the opposite’s faction main language anyways, so I doubt that is the case, at least nowadays anyhow.
It was bugged from the get go and one could understand both faction’s extra languages. So imagine the pandemonium when it gets fixed and you’re only able to know your faction’s languages, like it was intended.
Blizzard’s tagline “fun detected: fun nerfed”
Sure but there was a point where one could only understand and speak one’s own faction’s languages, though I don’t properly recall I believe it was still working like that in BFA when I last RPed, unless you had to take extra steps to bug it again somehow and they decided to just get rid of it.
Pre-release WoW had everyone speaking Common as their language. This resulted in a lot of verbal abuse between the factions. So they removed it with Common and Orcish.
They then made it that the Forsaken could speak Common as one of the languages. For obvious reasons, this also backfired.
They then slowly removed any constantly and easily accessible way to chat to the other faction.
Here we are.
Thalassian being shared is new…but admittedly the playerbase isn’t as big as it used to be.
I noticed this was bugged in SL. There were a few reports on it, but it never got any attention. It’s weird that if this was supposed to be intended (like it broke the xfaction communication divide somehow) they would have removed the skill entirely.
My draenei was happily chatting in darnasian for years, and then I guess she just hit her head really hard.
Damn, classic Blizzard move, instead of finding a fix, just rework something and hope no one will notice =/
So you can understand another language but cant speak it? Dumb.
Pretty sure that furbolg can be learned and understood by both factions. So should be able to cross faction chat using it.
I asked in trade the other day and was told that yes it works, but I tried talking in /1 in furbolg and got no responses at all.
That’s wow for you.
Because if you see people speaking a language and you can speak it as well, you might try to talk to them or engage in RP as the secondary languages are mainly for. Can’t have that.
Also draconic, demonic, pandaren is now (but wasn’t right away) the inability to understand cross faction is outdated and should probably be removed. At least with war mode off.
/1 doesn’t work like that. /1 afaik is based on your zone, only your faction can see it and language settings don’t apply.
Classic Blizzard, don’t punish the toxic players just work around them. Can’t have good features because the bots and min-max players will abuse it. Can’t punish the abuse, just make everything a little worse for everyone to keep that money coming.
