Yes and no… it’s a little complicated but not really at the same time…
I only get the urge to delete an Alt if I feel like said Alt would be better served as a different race and I have a compelling reason as to why I can’t just simply race/faction change them…
Case & Point… my Draenei Priest that I leveled from 1-110 then unlocked Lightforged Draenei (coincidentally with said Draenei Priest) I felt she would be better served as a Lightforged Draenei and I wanted the Heritage armor on her… it made no sense to me to just race change her then level a completely random Lightforged Draenei to unlock the armor… So I deleted her to remake her as a Lightforged and leveled her all over again.
Usually however I try to avoid deleting characters above a certain level… (usually ~80)
If you wanted to know if I ever feel the urge to just delete them because of having too many or just simply to delete them… nope, never… I have a personal rule… I try to keep one of every race and class… obviously with how many races there are I can’t keep to just one of every class, haven’t been able to for a long while now… but I can try to keep one of every class per faction… though I also try to make sure that every choice makes sense… I won’t make a race a certain class just because I lack that class on that faction… with the rapid fire release of Allied Races I had quite a bit of race/class shuffling to do with my newer characters to get an arrangement I liked… (I refuse to play the same spec on more than one character, which exposes a strict limit of 3 of any class… sans Druids and Demon Hunters)
no? i might want to play them one day, or my main gets gutted. They don’t take any space. Never deleted max level alt
Yeah, depending upon emotional attachment I will delete characters to make room for more characters.
/shrug
I enjoy questing. Honestly though I kinda wish the 50 character cap was increased. I know people are always like “Why/how do you have 50, or close to 50, characters?!” and well… I have a lot of situational characters.
Like I have a character on Mannoroth for example so that I can hop on and be there when Doubleagent hit’s the new cap each expansion, it’s a fun social experience! I have a character on Scarlet Monetary… er… or is it Scarlet Crusade? Anyway, I have a character there for the yearly Running of the Gnomes event. Like, the actual player ran event and not just the micro-holiday. I have some characters on various RP servers for when I am in the mood to join some RP events. Seriously, most the RP servers host and run some pretty fun little social events and its fun to partake once in a while
Of course I also have characters of the past that have sentimental value to me from over my nearly 15 years of playing this game and I just do not want to delete them. Things like my first character ever, my first level 60 character, etc. Then I have bank characters with guild banks(Per Faction), my Auction House Characters so my actual mains and alts bags are not always full (per faction), my Lockpicking Characters (per faction), my crafters for various professions (per faction) etc. etc.
Pretty soon a lot of these things add up, and while I get some of these things might not matter for some players they matter to me. That 50 character cap begins to shrink pretty rapidly. Throw into the mix all the heritage armor stuff, allied races, so on and so on and pretty soon you are running out of space. I think I am sitting at something like 46-48 characters right now and its a bit of a problem for me because I am running out of characters I feel comfortable deleting now.
Edit: Scratch that, I over estimated. I got on and counted out of curiosity and I am currently setting at 43 out of 50. I have more room than I thought I did
I’ve just been thinking about that tonight. I have a 100 I’m probably going to get rid of. I feel bad for doing it after investing that much time into her but I don’t want to sunk-cost this thing. I think I’ll cut things down so it’s only the characters I regularly play. I’ll probably have a better experience that way anyway.
I stupidly do this occasionally, and I’d suggest you don’t.
I don’t get it. If you only play two or three of the nine, why do you need to delete them for you to focus? You don’t seem to have a problem with that.
I would buy other acc
why should I delete my work ?
Before party sync I would often level characters to max and then delete them as I would get nostalgic for old dungeons but don’t want to put in the time to grind out yet another mage in current content.
And at the beginning of the last raid cycle I went and deleted all but one character. I was tired of swapping between alts and not getting anything done. Unfortunately quite a few of them have now been restored. I might have to delete them come SL though so I can focus on no more then two.
Yes all the time. But its times like the 100% XP buff it makes it really hard. I think between now and 9.0 release I will do some kind of pruning.
I’m the opposite. I sometimes feel like creating an alt but then I realise that Iprobably won’t play them outside of content droughts. I currently have no other alts that are even 120. I tend to just stick with one class every expansion and dedicate all my time towards it. BFA doesnt count, took a long break and didnt come back until the Nzoth raid.
I have in the past and should again… I still don’t have pathfinder because BfA killed my focus on 1 toon. I wish rep was account wide so bad…

I wish there’s a way to permanently delete a character over level 49.

I deleted an entire account and started over. I think I have a problem. I regret it now since I had a lot of collectables on that old account that I don’t have now

I did that…twice. This is my third account and I’m trying really hard not to level a character, regret making it, and not able to delete it permanently because its level is too high. I don’t want to unlock pathfinder and allied races for a 4th time.
I don’t delete mine, unless I plan on replacing it with something.
I also don’t do everything on them, for my alts getting up the the max level is enough.
If I run out of space to make more, then I just keep getting more accounts… yep, alt addict.
I have done this many times. I like to keep my login screens neat and organized and my team of alts nicely curated.
I have 5 toons
2 paladins, a deathknight, a hunter, and a rogue.
I have three of the toons to ilvl 440, the other two are at ilevel 435 and 437.
In last two days I have run voldun quests to get ilvl 430+ gear, ran both nzoth invasion points, today ran nazmir and zuldazar quests to get ilvl445+ gear. I have done this five times a day to try and gear my toons.
all that and one…only one toon got any gear they could use. This is like 25-30 quests to get one usable piece of gear.
I am ready to uninstall, I am tired of this crap. I have slaved hours to get jack squat time after time.
I’m doing that now.
I hate working on alts I leveled for flavor, spec or heritage armor, etc and knowing that when I play them again I’ll just sell their gear and use heirlooms…
they will be there waiting for me in a year…
Last week I finally hit the ‘wall’ and had a major purge.
I went from 43 toons (40 of them over 100+ lvl) down to 8. (7 alliance and this horde toon)
I just had enough of the gearing and trying to keep some of them leveled.
These are my ‘old’ toons from TBC/Wrath days that I kept.
I doubt I will ever go alt again…
