Does anyone else

Still have to “update” every single time they sign onto wow? This has been going on for months and I thought they’d have it fixed by now.

You might consider checking your Settings/Downloads from the Battle.net launcher to see how they are configured.

It’s probably PTR updating. I’m trying to figure out how to stop PTR from doing anything as I don’t use it.

Mine constantly goes from Initializing, to installing, to Reclaiming Disk space, to Finalizing, to Reclaiming disk space, to Finalizing, and on and on and on as long as the battle.net is up on the screen. My problem was the PTR did not have time to update. So right now, I’m letting it just update while I do other things. Maybe that will fix it.

edit I don’t think mine actually has anything to do with PTR. My PTR is for BFA not SL. I never signed up for SL PTR. So not sure why mine keeps on updating constantly.
edit Oh yes it does!!! Here is my error message:
BLZBNTAGT0000096A Sorry, you can’t repair World of Warcraft while World of Warcraft (PTR) is updating

Is there a way to remove PTR from your WoW folder and make it stay gone? I tried moving it to another folder and as soon as I opened the battle.net, it reinstalled the folder and still wants to download constantly. HELP!!!

edit The PTR I have is the BFA. I didn’t sign up for SL. My account page gives me the option, but I won’t go there to check it out anyhow, so yeah.

last edit on this one
I just used the launcher to uninstall the PTR, so now it’s just like any other game I haven’t installed… no updates, no files. So now, I’m doing a scan and repair on wow to make sure there are no issues with any files.

you’re probably right…ty

No, I was wrong. I did a ticket on it and got a reply from support. I didn’t use any of what he said, but I did get another idea which WORKED!!!

I went to c:\program data and moved the Battle.net file to a new folder on desktop just in case it didn’t work. Then I went to https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/download?platform=windows and downloaded for windows. After installing that, I made sure that my normal file location for wow, which is f:\world of Warcraft. Then I hit install and it actually did it!! It completed the downloads for whatever it was having trouble with and now my battle app shows all is up to date and the download loop if finally GONE!!!

You might try that if what was going on with me is your problem also. It’s worth a try and you don’t lose anything.

The GM did suggest that perhaps my drive was limiting the download for some reason. I had the battle.net on the F drive also, but now it’s on the C drive which is the default location.

Software is sometimes bad due to bit flips or corrupt sectors on hardware, normally the hard drive.

You likely had bad game files that were attempting to fix themselves however the DL you did fixed it. Yeah, C is the best drive for WoW, as putting it elsewhere both slows data flow down and also, as your issue was, might lead to bad sectors on your HDD or SSD.

My C drive is a small original drive that is an SSD which worked for a while until wow got too large. I purchased a new SSD which is the F drive. It’s fast, which until recently worked just fine for the battle app. Also, WoW is the only thing installed on the F SSD.

Some better skilled computer shops can “mirror” or clone a drive onto a new SSD.

If you can save up for a new C drive, there are shops that basically “move” the data to the new one and you then gain the new drive’s space with the old drive’s last push content.

Worth it, if you are able.

My comp is over 6 years old, so I’m probably going to be shopping for a new one one of these days.
