So, im not a huge quester anymore, theyve gotten pretty generic over the last few expansions so i just find myself racing ti M+ and raiding, and it just dawned on me all i do is log on and do M+, and maybe 2 hc raid bosses i might need. If a world quest looks not annoying amd fast gold ill do it, but i haven’t done a quest since i hit 70 really, and the few i have i didnt even pay attention to them. Dont get me wrong im OCD pushing my Rio for competitive purposes, but outside of that, and just herbing between M+, i have no clue or care whats going on in this expansion, it feels really small and getting anywhere takes seconds. Im not really bored cause i find 20+ M+ challenging, but…am i the only one who doesnt care about anything this expansion is about and just does pushes in dungones raids? I tried to go unlock nightborne, but when i thought about the time investment vs pushing my rio i fogured it was a horrid waste of time for an alt i may or may not make to go through pugging again…anyome else feel WoWs story is just downright unappealing but the group content is still ok?
The only time I felt that way was the centaurs.
The pop quiz they give you during the main questline is just the cherry on top
Bro, I do not give a single ounce of care about your entire plateau.
lmao.
I feel like the writing is being passed off to college freshman interns, i actually will be honest and read one quest, more to the fact i was so annoyed how long it was, but expecting something big for having to go through it (the dwarf at ruby shrine who goes on the whole tirade about missing the old days and talks forever).
I doubt many people remember, but there is one very, very, very long quest, of all the quests ive ever done in any game and all of WoW since vanilla i did its the best, i do every time and love and thats the fallen hero quest in Icecrown sending you everywhere to try to bring him back to life…i had no idea til WotlK classic its actually a quest dedicated to a real individual that died of cancer…such a great written quest
I didn’t even read it I just guessed until they stopped saying “that is incorrect” ![]()
What every expansion is about: revenge
its a throwaway storyline , i dont even think the writers care. it doesnt have sylvanas or anduin in it
the sooner it ends the better. 11.0 class fantasy expansion light vs void plz
It’s about dragons or something.
Super short TL;DR for Dragonflight story:
Primalists have mucked about with stuff, breaking things, which awakened the watchers who re-summoned the dragons back to dragon isles. Now that they are here, they invited us to join and help and that’s what we’re doing.
Something about Dragons whining about mortal concerns.
I care about the narrative as a whole which is why DF is such a major letdown (well one reason). Even for a “beach episode”, we have no real compelling reason to be here. The aspects are so far beneath us even if they had their power back. We’ve just got back from slapping down a god capable of rewriting the literal laws of the universe and reality and saving the afterlife itself and before that we’ve defeated an old god who is older than the dragons with just the blink of an eye and before that we’ve fought and won against a regenerating and never ending dimension hopping threat and before that we fought against an invasion from an alternate universe.
And yet we’re actually supposed to give a damn about some forgotten island where, at best, we’re powering back up the planet babysitters and tenders? We’re threatened by a cranky proto dragon who, by all rights, should MAYBE be a side quest mob end mob…but yet somehow her and her dumb evil shaman cult are actually a credible threat?
The only redeeming part of the story is the fact that, at least for now, the Horde and Alliance working together. The entire faux faction tension and then later war should have never happened past MoP. We have magic, technology, and a robust spy network (at least Alliance does) and would have easily seen that the Horde never betrayed us on the broken shore which should have altered how the Stormheim played out and certainly never the full on war in BfA.
Even taking the crapfest that has been the narrative over the last few expansions, it should have at least led to Sylvanas dying defending the jailer and realizing as she drew her final breath that she DID serve and was nothing but a puppet despite swearing never to be again. That nonsense about her “good piece of her soul” should never had existed and been left up to the player to intrpret whether she was truly to blame or not.
The entire nonsense with Anduin and his self isolation only makes sense if he has tried and sees he has lost his connection to the light and his time being dominated has unlocked some kind of darkness in him. I can only imagine the writers are just using this abence to hopefully let Turalyon go full on crusade when whatever post beach episode plot point finally is revealed and kicks off hopefully the void vs light super expansion they’ve been teasing forever now.
But meh, I try and enjoy the game for what it is. Clearly the story isn’t even 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd priority for Blizzard. Once upon a time it was more arguable the game revolved around the story and the world was built and shaped around the universe they carefully and meticulously crafted.
Edit - As for the question itself. I know full on what the story is about and I do find it hilarious especially the centaur bits. Like in what world are these sentient horses EVER even remotely on the level of dragons?
Something something dragons, and no I don’t care lol. The story was never the reason why I played the game but at least in BFA and shadowlands I had some idea.
the eggs and like the primals and titans and stuff idk it’s really bad this time around. it’s actually hilarious the cutscenes are like low resolution disney, it’s so tacky
I have skipped every single cinematic and cutscene for like the last decade, i honestly have no idea what’s going on because quests are just yellow dots on a map to me.
the in engine cinematics are maximum cringe. i did like watching illidan… click arrow for spoiler
dragonflight storyline: Khadgar emphatically gasps at the new even greater evil
whoa
We’re on the Dragon Isles because our aid was requested to defeat the Primalists who in the pre-expansion event, had been causing chaos all over Azeroth and the newly accessible Dragon Isles.
The Primal Incarnates have now been unleashed, who are powerful dragons that refused the gift of the titans, despise the order the titans placed on Azeroth, intend to force their primalist dogma on all, and seek to destroy the Dragon Aspects and their livelihood.
That’s the story so far.
I don’t much care, my character sees himself as “on vacation,” doing odd jobs while avoiding anything that looks like real work.
i was anticipating a poop quest. it is the core of wow. the pick up poop. or feed a wolf until they poop and search through it. or even drop a huge dookie in an outhouse.
there is not 1 single quest of this caliber in dragonflight, and quite frankly i am distraught and disappointed.
I think it’s about, like, dragons, or something? Dragons and cosmetics. Pretty much it.
Which is why they should and make everyone re-roll to lvl 1 characters on the world of Htoreza and we can go back to being a band of adventurers looking for gold. Take the combat and spell systems and all that and try to build a real story somewhere.
Oh good, another thread of people who “don’t care, didn’t read” about the story but still feel compelled to offer their hot takes on it.
