When we are rescuing thrall or baine, or for horde players jaina or trying for anduin does anyone feel really concerned like, aren’t we basically supporting killing ourselves? Sure there’s a very short term ceasefire and the jailer is the bigger threat, but in the long term much more of our people are in danger from these enemy leaders than from any of this shadowlands stuff. Far more people have been claimed by the war between the alliance in recent years and horde than by random dragons and old gods.
Wtf are you talking about? If the Jailer wins there would be no more Azeroth or Reality.
Yeah, but we are already working to stop that, we don’t actually need to save Baine or Thrall to pull that off. Thrall’s entire addition to our conflict with the jailer was making a bridge one time.
What about after we beat the jailer? What happens then?
I definitely feel like it is poor writing. I don’t allow it to get to me, but we would have never seen that in early expansions.
Lol I didn’t want to save Baine and Thrall either so that’s a bad example.
When we do escape from Durnholde I always wonder why we don’t just shank Thrall and avoid the horde being started in the first place.
Not really. Personally I’ve never really identified with the factions much, I’ll totally help both sides. Baine, Jaina, Thrall, etc are all good honorable people. Character matters more than faction.
The current status is more than a short term ceasefire though. With the signing of an official armistice and the support of nearly all faction leaders everyone’s trying to work towards peace now. The faction war will not start again. Whatever happened in the past needs to be let go so they can all move on. And that means working together from here onwards.
Plus these four leaders in the SL are some of the ones most committed to peace. It’s actually totally helpful to save them to ensure the factions stay on the right track in the future.
That’s a bit different, because we can’t predict how changing the timeline would affect things. What if Grom had become warchief? What if without the orcs, Hyjal fell?
I don’t believe thrall is commited to peace, he literally started the modern wars between the alliance and the horde. I also don’t believe peace is a real long term solution, but rather one side winning and disbanding the other.
I’ve never thought of our player characters as canonical. We’re just stand-ins for a vague, amorphous group of “champions.” So it never felt to me like “aiding the enemy” more like, “uncovering some generic plot.”
If Blizzard were to ever try to canonize these events down to the detail of “who” did it, I’m sure they’d just use the faction that makes the most sense for various tasks. (They did this back when they put out the Chronicles book - attributing some dungeons and raids through the years to the Alliance and others to the Horde, and others to third-party factions).
Since Cataclysm and being forced on my Alliance character to help Aggra put back together Captian Planet… I mean Go’el. And then take part of their wedding like I am his homeboy or something.
Or sit there and hear Sylvanas’s playful banter with Varian after you watch her basically purge half of the Eastern Kingdoms previously.
Yes, we helped the leader of the nightborne then she wanted to slaughter all night elves because of Tyrande’s logical words, then she goes back to being friendly and we have to accept them. What? Terrible storytelling.
At least Grom wouldn’t ninja my Deathwing kill
That just makes my actions and involvement in the story feel pointless. It’s not a good way to write things.
@Rogmarr for reasons like that i don’t want the faction leaders involved in the story at all. Why can’t we get people lower down the chain? From my forsaken characters perspective (not that ive had once since like, cata) the humans of stormwind rejected them and want them all dead i really don’t want to team up with that guy. But if it was just paladin mcjoe, he’s not in charge of the decisions, he could be a cool dude.
Jaina tried to kill us not too long ago, the fact that Horde players had to help her in the Maw intro experience was ridiculous.
Imagine if Alliance players zoned into the Maw at the start of the expansion, and Nathanos was in charge and telling them what to do.
Can you IMAGINE how the forums would have erupted, if they did that?
Looks at achievements
I just wish they’d stay dead after I killed them…
Given we are in the shadowlands I don’t think that would help.
Let him win and nuke this game and its engine already. Devs may also need a bit of shuffling.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
That’s a great attitude sure, but thrall or jaina aren’t bringing the armies of their respective factions in here to fight the jailer. They are just single people and very replaceable people at that. All jaina has done is offer a handful of teleport spells, all thrall did was build a bridge using shaman powers explicitly weaker than our own shamans as his powers are weakened. Their help isn’t worth forgiving their crimes.
Shadowlands could easily have been done without Thrall or Jaina there and it wouldn’t have made much difference.
I guess Anduin needs to be there for… whatever? To walk in and take things that the Winter Queen has left unguarded, despite saying she was guarding them? To menacingly point a sword at the Primus and have his sigil magically float to it?
Yeah, don’t think Anduin needs to be there, either.
