Does Anyone Else Feel Like This?

Idk why i am this way but i want to play a game and improve significantly over a long time of playing that game. When it comes to actually doing what it takes to improve i just won’t do it. I know rewatching my games to see what i did well and what i need to improve is important. I know that doing something deliberately will help me get better at that skill down the road. I also know that in order to improve i have to things that may not be fun but is important if i want to do better. The major point for this topic is that I know what it takes to get better at something, i just won’t do it. It annoys me to no end. Idk if its just the idea of having to practice that turns me away or if working hard is just something i am not into. Side note, when i work my real job, i like to be busy at all times. I do not like to be standing around, i want to be busy from the time i clock in until i clock out.

I’m familiar with this feeling. For me, the thing that I’m practicing on has to be interesting to me, in order to keep practicing with it.

Something like your job, that’s something you have to do to generate an income, so your motivation for your well being and staying alive is what keeps you going.

Something out of pure entertainment is a different story.

Take me and RPGs, for example. I love everything about the genre. However, “western” RPGs doesn’t drive that same interest for me as JRPGs. No matter how popular or how many awards a WRPG gets, the aesthetic appeal of JRPGs will always win me over. Despite both games being from Bandai Namco, I was looking forward to Tales of Arise months in advance, while I never heard of Elden Ring until people kept asking me about it.

When you practice, you have to ask yourself: are you interested in the game you’re practicing on, or is it the genre that you’re trying to get good at? If it’s the game, do you have a goal set for when your skills are where they want to be? For recognition? A tournament? Bragging rights in beating your friends? If you’re trying to get good at the genre, maybe the game itself may not appeal to you.
