Wasn’t this a dead talent no one ever picked on the talent row before the prepatch? Am I imagining things? Does anyone actually use this even though its been given to us for free now? It seems to be far too restricted to be of much use since most things seems to die far too quickly, even in a mythic at the sub 20% mark. Add the fact that its on the GCD and I really don’t see its usefulness. Perhaps someone can enlighten me? Maybe if it activated at 30-40% it might actually not be lame?
Also, what am I meant to do with that proc thing that appears above my head? I have nothing to press that appears to be associated with it since the prepatch.

Why on earth would you not use an execute when it’s available?

Because its damage is lower than your main source damage lol
My verdict hits for 1500, hammer of wrath hits for 900.
Maybe this is the reason.
Verdict is also a Holy Power Spender when HoW is a Holy Power Builder.
And AFAIK except outside of an Expurgation build during EP HoW was the de-facto talent pick for its row. At least out of all the Paladins I know.
Its lost some of its QoL tho with the “Usable anytime during wings” effect being moved to level 52, a level we cannot yet achieve. But even so, its useful on bosses were you can get multiple uses due to its short CD but I’ve used it quite a bit even on trash.

Its a holy power generator and an execute, you’d be silly to just wait on a TD when you can use an execute then get 1 more HP then use your TD

There wasn’t a talent I picked sooner when it became available. HoW was too iconic of an ability to not pick up.

On my rogue and jumped a pally today. The fight went bad and I tried to get away. Needless to say HoW secured his kill

Crusader Strike and BoJ also hit for less than TV, does that mean you don’t use those?
HoW is a Holy Power builder, not a spender, compare it to CS, because that’s what it takes priority over in the rotation.

Yeah, but the thing is we had better options as a talent. As baseline, there’s really no reason not to use it. A ranged attack to a spec in which mobility sucks is pretty much welcomed.
Nope. Imagining that it was a dead talent? Yes. And yes we do use it, it’s just available during wings during prepatch because Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, decided to move that ability to level 58 instead, even though we were able to use it on live just over a week ago.

its a generator not a spender, so of course it hits softer than verdict lol. On longer boss fights you have the ability to use it instead of the completely useless (except hp generation) crusader strike.
in pvp it also gives some much needed range if a low health target is trying to get away. not always useful but some range is better than nothing
It’s lost too much of its damage potential to be considered a true execute anymore but it still functions awesomely as a ranged skill to maintain pressure on a fleeing target and despite having some of the edge sanded off of it I’ve still racked up some solid killing blows against enemies running away from me with it.

It’s still has it’s uses but it doesn’t do nearly enough damage to consider it an execute imho.
No a lot of people used it I used it all of bfa until it was baselined I was excited we got it back.

That’s the only thing I found it useful for, otherwise I didn’t really miss not having it.
I feel like you have to either be really bad at the game or never have played a Paladin for more than 5 minutes to not understand why Hammer of Wrath is ESSENTIAL. This thread is ridiculous.

I use it on my Prot Paly as a filler ability when stuff is on CD. It hits twice as hard as Judgement so its a plus.
i used hammer of wrath religiously. as a warrior it felt like a natural talent. when they got rid of it, it diminished ret by even more as you just felt more and more like a robot with the rotation.
Well it’s a really weak execute currently. So using it risks missing a kill chance. So it only is optimal “IF” the enemy is really low and your other better buttons are on CD.
Yea this is a problem. Hammer of Wrath needs a 100% dmg boost and 20% increased chance to crit. It should actually function as it’s intention of being an execute.
