I just ran the new 9.1 Torghast and wow was it not fun. I am now dreading an entire patch of this new revamp. The new rating system requiring 100% of all activities being done on each floor sapped the fun from WoW tonight so fast. I can’t believe there is no in-game way to track your progress/score in real time. You just have to wait until the end to see these arbitrary par times and know if you missed one urn blending into the scenery. Also just the 100% requirement in general is the worst. Gone is any sense or tactical moving, stealth, or otherwise route planning (a feature I loved from withered training in legion). It’s now just zerg everything as fast as possible. I am dreading an entire patch of this. If there were any other decent way to get soul cinders outside of Torghast, I’d never set foot in that awful game play content ever again.
So does anyone out there actually enjoy Torghast? I’m genuinely interested in arguments on why anyone would find it fun.

I like creating a plan/build and adjusting when the odds roll against me and Im pressured to make diamonds out of coal.
I enjoyed twisting corridors but I chose to do it with friends. I also don’t do regular Torghast solo anymore, it’s was just do it with a friend or guildie real quick before. I’ve not done much in 9.1 with it yet, so I’ve not got a strong opinion on the new one.
The scoring system is a masterpiece and adds a lot of intrinsic value and fun to Torghast. Once you understand the system better then it’ll make more sense. Have a read at https://www.wowhead.com/guides/torghast-scoring-system-shadowlands
I welcome the new “affixes” compared to the old ones, and the new out of run progression system and cosmetics in game, and the coming vault thing you will be able to reach next week and get things like sockets or conduits looks awesome in my opinion and something much needed
it feels overall more complete than the first live version in terms of a roguelike gameplay within wow

I am well aware of the system, but how exactly does it add value and fun? It’s just a way to enforce you to do 100% the content on each floor (kill everything, collect everything)
Not that I really like the repetitive content of Torghast in the first place, but I used to insert my own fun trying to see how fast I could finish a wing in 9.0 (ie a speedrun where I skipped most every mob and out of the way anima orb on every floor and made a mad dash for the boss). If clearing everything is fun, why isn’t it required to clear every trash mob in dungeons and raids? If they want to make it like M+ and hit a certain mob count sure, but 100% is mind numbingly boring.
I’m fine with torghast. But i’m a havoc demon hunter, i just aoe everything down and dash dash dash, stupid easy funny content.
And i’m playing exactly like i used to play, score changed nothing. DH epic powers are useless anyway
I agree. Not knowing until the end is painful and also there is no mechanism, as far as I know, to review where you went wrong .
It’s somewhat relaxing. It can be mildly entertaining to simply blow things up on occasion.
Answer? No not really.
As a holy priest, and only a holy priest, the silly thing took a long time. I farmed layer 3 mostly to get my current legendary. I occasionally was lucky enough to get a group with my guild but my available times don’t match theirs often.
I literally only unlocked later 8 due to this about 3 weeks ago.
I’m probably going to be sitting on a rank 4 legendary for a very long time with how this does not jive with my playstyle.
Im mixed.
-The new changes are garbage. Blizz is way over reaching telling me how to play to progress. If i kill the floor boss the next layer should unlock. Not oh i didnt smash some pots tough luck.
-Adamant halls is score dependent and thats fine.
-Also what is empowered? Use it right before youre killing mobs? How boring.
-Not being able to see your score as you progress is bad too.
As for the other components its still boring as all get out.
My suggestions:
For non TC Double anima power drops and only drop rare powers and up. Its meant to be ridiculous and more powers equals more fun. But sure give me the 5% leech power the whole run instead thatll keep me engaged. In TC a build matters, in 5 floors it doesnt.
Put ilvl 213 gear drops or stygia in there for alts. Otherwise there is no point in going because its not fun. This was a main driver for ppl in horrific visions.
Drop torments and affixes. Its not challenge, its annoyance.
How is this hard to understand?
I enjoyed it before these changes. The changes at the moment don’t change how I enjoyed playing it but I’m getting a lot of similar vibes of how Challenge modes in MoP/WoD that turned into M+ now.
Which just changes how they develop and create content for it. This is assuming of course they move Torghast along in some different way.
He’s a troll pretending to be a blizzard shill. Just ignore him.
I mean I like Torghast as the little mini game that lets me feel Uber powerful.
Just because I like that aspect doesn’t mean I like the scoring system though.
I met a druid last night in Trade Chat, that seemed to really love SL. And Torghast was on his top list of the reasons why I should buy SL. So there has to be folks out there that really do enjoy it.

I’d like it more if survival hunter powers were a bit better
But overall I do enjoy it

I enjoy doing Torghast but with a party it just feels like dungeon content you would do with guilds or group finder. Going solo at it just not as fun, I main a WW monk and I can nuke mobs down with my AoE burst but still more enjoyable in group.
