I just returned after a long break. I raided hard in BC and WotLK, then took my hiatus. I have always been a warlock, even in my absence. I have other alts but nothing ever held my attention like playing affliction lock. But I decided it is worth having a dedicated alt now that there is so much more variety. So I did some searches on classes, used different keywords like “dps”, “fun”, “most viable”, “exciting”.
Amazingly, what I learned from a good deal of reading is that most people think their class is currently broken, their specs used to be great but now suck for one reason or another, but they think other classes are doing great. It seems like everyone thinks ret pallies are awesome…EXCEPT ret pallies. The long thread I read on it was surprising considering that everyone else’s comments on them express either respect, admiration, or jealousy, but never pity, but ret pallies feel they are terribly lacking in their current state. It is obvious that a lot of the changes have taken place that have sacrificed aspects of the game that people really loved (god I miss placing each lvl point on my talent tree).
But honestly, does anyone actually think that their class, or a specific spec feels great right now? The only class and spec that I could find overall positive comments on about how fun and decent it is (not great, mind you, but they didn’t hate themselves) is the fury warrior. My research made me want to poll the community to see what everyone thinks.
Understand that, first off, I play WoW with arthritis. I literally cannot do higher content for long periods of time, so I restrict my activities namely to LFR and Heroic Dungeons. Mythics if I’m running with my guildies who understand my limitations. I have no clue how things function beyond those parameters.
That said; I have one of every class at, or near, max level. I enjoy every single one of them, some more and some less. There are frustrating moments where even I can see errors, like energy starvation or gimmicky DPS/Heals, but nothing that stops me from playing and enjoying those classes.
Marksmanship, my favourite for my Gobbie, was totally bleh at the start of the expansion, but usable. Eventually I switched over to Beast Mastery for the mobility, though I go back now and then for that awesome sniper feeling.
All in all, I don’t know how much the hate on classes is just being being burnt out after fourteen years, or actual problems. I never take anything the forums say as the Gospel truth though; way too many over-dramatic ninnies for that.
I love the feel of havoc. Others complain that it’s too simplistic, but it’s very fast-paced and I enjoy it a lot. Just got a balance druid to 120 and I’m enjoying that a lot too.
I mained a Warlock since vanilla. Detested the changes made in Legion. Spec is a little better now for BfA, but Lock is no longer my main. I have also played Hunter extensively, but not excited about the specs.
I now main Paladin on Horde & Alliance, either Ret or Protection. Love the spec. Note, however, I no longer raid-burnt out, so I am probably not aware of issues in that regard.
Minus a couple tweaks I’d like to see, I am enjoying Ret for the most part. It absolutely could use an extra button to push to spice things up. There are so many small things I’d like added, (a radiant dot left by Templar’s Verdict and Divine Storm, a shorter cd on Crusader Strike to name a couple) but I do still find it fun. More importantly for me as a player, it is fun to do solo activities with, as I enjoy soloing stuff when the guild isn’t doing anything.
I have a really unfair advantage in the class balance discussion, and that’s because I skipped WoD and Legion. I had a 6-year break from WoW, so I didn’t deal with the disappointment of the pruning the way so many others have.
That said, I freaking love my Resto shaman. I think Earth Shield should be baseline from both a class fantasy/history standpoint and from a “you didn’t give us any other tank external, so why did you take that from us, too” standpoint. I also think it’s ridiculous that we can’t dispel poison. I think we’re the only healer that can’t. I also think we should have a talent option for a mass dispel totem on a long cooldown.
Those are literally the only complaints I have about resto shaman today, and they’re not really complaints…just wish list items.
So yeah. I love my class and am not disappointed or unhappy with it. That said, I get WHY others are feeling more negative about it than I am.
I also alt a restoration druid, and I’ve played on her enough now to get attached. I don’t have any issues with her functionality or unique-ness as a druid. I think Resto Druid is pretty solid and different enough from other healers to be a full and stable standalone spec.
Druid for moonkin and heals. Monk is pretty good all around - ww started out slow, but feels much better now, mw is fun, brew is fun. Shaman both elemental and resto feel good. Prot warrior.
The 2 main classes I play, boomkin and ret paladin both feel like they have plenty of buttons to press and have pretty decent talent options as well. There are some that are severely lacking, though.
Right now i am leveling this toon up. And boy am i having fun. There is alot going on with a resto shaman. The rotation i use.has a really nice.flow to it. It feels automatic. At least level 59. Really good dps and wonderful heals. I am really enjoying this toon
My main is a 120 and i love it. It can be clunky at time but i noticed that i really have to play around with my secondary stats. Having hast at about 20% made my pally smooth as silk!
120 BM Hunter. Well i had some fun with my BM. The only problem for me seems to be that at time my pet would be unpredictable. From not being able to stop growl, not be able to dismiss pet or taking a round about way to get to a target and bringing a ridiculous mob with it. And it always ALWAYS happens at the worst possible time. Its more of little bugs than anything but it is still pretty enjoyable
72 Mistmeaver/windwalker. This is a super fun spec combo. Monks have wonderful mobility and that a big plus for me. The windwalker to me is very engaging. Their animation is really cool and fitting for the class. Windwalkers feel pretty powerful. MW is fun fun fun. No problems healing dungeons at all. They actually seem.to be a bit overpowered healing wise. Kinda makes some dungeons boring but pve wise very powerful and reliable.
This is my opinion on up to level 120 lfr and heroics. Not sure about mythics or pvp
I was a holy priest for SO long, and through a series of strange events, I ended up rolling a resto shaman by accident…and it ruined me forever for other classes. I do wish there were more races who could be shaman, but I get it.
Resto shammy is the best fun I’ve had in WoW. Ever. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
I did the same thing! I meant to roll a warlock and accidently clicked shaman. Wasn’t paying attention at all. I figured well i made him might as well try him out. And i havent looked back since! And this is the most fun i had in the game in a while.
I play on Alliance and Horde my class I have really enjoyed is Destruction Warlock. I enjoy the rotation and damage bursts.
I’m currently leveling my first melee class a Ret pally and I can say I been having fun with her.
