Doctors Without Borders

As it stands right now, with 16 days left it doesn’t look likely that we will meet the $1M goal. Regardless of the pet bonus for hitting this goal, please consider donating to this charity as it does good work and unlike previous WoW drives your donation is going directly to MSF.

We’ve raised a great amount already and it would be awesome if Blizz matched us.

That is all.

I already donated $40… thinking now about donating more. Hmm. I only have $105 to spend for now, so more would be pretty generous of me in theory. But I should shut up and not be a Pharisee I guess.

Every organization has its dark side, you have to make the choice if the good they do outweighs the bad, and Médecins Sans Frontières is no different. A buddy of mine got injured bad in the hong kong protests, he was scared to go to a government hospital because they would arrest freedom protestors. So he and many others tried to get treatment from local Médecins Sans Frontières outposts, they were refused.

The CCP insisted that protestors who are injured should die, and Médecins Sans Frontières obliged this request. Ever since then, I haven’t been cool with them, I used to donate.

Any organization that bows to the CCP should not get a dime, because ethics goes out the window for money.

I knew there was a catch.

Thanks for the confirmation.

To be fair and provide both sides of the argument, Médecins Sans Frontières has helped a lot of people, they saved tens of thousands of lives during the Rwanda Genocide. But for me personally, them not treating my friends in Hong Kong is something I cannot forgive.

i will not

The only reason I’m not donating is because of Bobby Kotick, idc if he has nothing to do with this either way I don’t like him

I only support charities in my local community and country. We have enough problems here that need sorted before I go throwing my money at some random country, that’s if they even see my money if I were to donate.

All valid points, I also donate locally (pet shelter and food banks) so if you don’t want to donate that’s fine. I was just pushing awareness since we’re close to the goal and it’d be nice to hit it regardless of the pet. Maybe it’s the OCD in me to see the bar fill up or just that gamers can be a force for good.

Either way if you have donated, thank you, if you’re donating locally to your community then a big Thank You. Do what you can.

Shockingly MSF operates pretty broadly in the United States as well as other “developed” countries.

The reason that MSF would refuse to treat non-emergency cases from “illegal” protests is that doing so gets them kicked out and not allowed back. Each situation is different, but getting kicked out of a country where they are vaccinating people because they treated the wrong person is not a hard call to make.

They have to maintain a level of trust with the entire world or they can’t operate.

That said, charitable donations are 100% voluntary and it is just as awesome to contribute an hour washing fleas off of starving stray doggos as it is to donate to MSF. Doing things for other people is to be encouraged and applauded, period.

Company making billions, asking their player base that is barely getting by to donate in an effort to raise awareness is like that Kardashian girl that asked for donations to help her friend who was in an accident to cover surgery costs.

I will give straight to the poor, I don’t care what they do with that $. I have little trust my $ goes to where it matters when giving it to any group/company/etc…

I applaud anyone who gives, for whatever reason, to help others.

I noticed that in the Blizzard post, or used here, it was stated that the donation goes directly to DWB/MSF. For those that donated through Blizzard, were you provided a charitable contribution receipt?

Nobody donated ‘through blizzard’ . Doctors without borders is keeping track of the amount donated via the ‘event’ on their own website and Blizzard (and us) can see the number which I’ve been diligent to post often in the stickied post. The donation receipt goes straight to the donor and nowhere on the receipt does the name Blizzard appear at all. The reason that bananas was opened to everyone (and daisy will be if we reach the goal) is that Blizzard has no way to track who did or did not donate as you never log into your Battlenet account to do the donation.

So when choosing to save 1000 people or go against the laws of a sovereign nation they chose to save more lives. Yes it sucks, yes it’s unethical on the part of the local government but is it any different than the 1000s of people daily in the US that are denied life saving treatment because they have no health insurance ?

While I agree that Doctors without Borders should try to help everyone they need to be allowed in the country to do so and sometimes they need to follow the rules of the land to be able to be there. It sucks and I feel bad for your friend but that’s just facts.

Because Doctors without Borders isn’t interested in helping political dissidents and getting dragged into their mess. Of course they wouldn’t help protestors, why the hell would they draw the wrong attention and obstruct their own mission statement?

You are the worst kind of person. Equating an organization that honors its own principles to a communist government abusing human rights.

This charity makes the climate crisis worse. No thanks.

oh my, there is a huge amount of hypocrisy going on with this idea and that organization - they annoyed me precisely because they were sticking their noses in politics.

They’re one of my usual donation targets. This year I just channeled part of it through the charity pet scheme.

Virtually true of every person, animal, organization, piece of matter in this universe. If you are looking for something perfectly altruistic and faultless you wouldn’t find it in reality.
