I didn’t mind renown when it was in Shadowlands. It was easy to get through (not reputation based), was unique to your covenant and gave some interesting rewards. It was also good it was only tied to one faction. However, I have to say that it being in DF has massively put me off trying to earn rep outside of anything passive/ regular game play. It just seems needless that all factions are now renown based (with a rep grind), and only serves to gate content. Not a fan of the way its currently done and wouldn’t want more moving forward. Not fun.
The Renown system as it has been presented in Dragonflight has allowed me to completely ignore it and do the content I want to do. The feasts, the sieges, the hunts, quests. I only want to do those like, 5% of the time. And that’s okay. I wouldnt mind seeing that continue. I don’t think story should be gated behind Renown, though. If they need to extend it then they should do it weekly. Though story shouldn’t be gated except by prerequisite story quests, imo.
Agree with not locking story behind renown. By the time I had enough Valdraken renown to continue the campaign, I didn’t care about it anymore.
Otherwise, I guess I don’t care either way. They can drip-feed rewards more frequently with renown, so that’s a plus.
And maybe I’m missing something, but max renown doesn’t count for rep achievements? I’ve been at 99/100 exalted reps all xpac. The furbolg rep didn’t count, either. Pretty annoying.
Nice thing about renown is once you get 1 or 2 characters to max, those token drops for rep get ridiculous. I have enough from just casually messing around to get another alt to max just from those alone. Two if I wait until they hit 70.
no not unless story isnt tied to it and or it isnt a slog fest and its account wide progress meaning as i level my alts it progresses forward like how pvp honor still progresses account wide . Its utterly ridiculous that we have to regrind all that nonsense per toon . Like did they not learn from SL that renown not being fast or being account wide is terrible . the only thing that makes this expac a chore .
There’s a fine line between feeling systematized and mass produced compared to over complicated and annoying with everything having it’s unique methods for reputation.
Think they did a decent job with the initial renowns in them having a some unique ways, hunts, weekly quests, quest hubs.
I don’t mind it but The fact that I’ve been playing regularly since Dragonflight launched and I still haven’t finished the whole story cause my Expedition rep is to low is a bit frustrating. Maybe make the story at least a bit earlier in the renown rewards cause dang
My #1 most hated thing in all of WoW is reputation. Renown has been so slow at increasing for me that i never once in DF touched it. Im getting into Heroic Raiding gear area and havent needed it once
The part of renown I’m not wild about is how it doesn’t reward things directly but only unlocks the ability to buy things (especially when the currencies involved aren’t even a part of the gameplay loop)
The thing I hate about the renown is the same thing in regards to the reputation and some campaign quest being locked behind the renown. But I don’t mind the system.
What i’m annoyed by is that grinding to the end of renown is the same amount/grind as rep but it doesn’t count as rep for the purpose of rep achievements.
It really should count as exalted.
Yea I’m on the fence with locking story behind the renown. It’s not exactly good, but so long as it’s ‘side quest nuance’ then that’d be fine. Just more stuff to supplement the story.
Problem is, Blizz is notoriously bad at locking important information behind some random wall. IE: Wrathion Rogue quest in Cata.
Anything that relates to the main plot of the game should be readily accessible.
I’m mainly posting this in case someone can tell me (hopefully) I’m doing it wrong, but the following things have been grinding my gears.
“Catch up the campaign storyline to engage with the niffen.” Like, I don’t even know how much needs done. I’m doing forgotten reach stuff now that I skipped when it was current. I got to forgotten reach without needing to catch up anything though. What a dumb change.
Also, two quests looking for renown 12 and renown 13 in two different reps. There’s a very good chance I may never get to these because I’m now cycling alts probably every 10 days or so, and there’s no way I’m going to be doing that on more than one character. Also for the record I could never decide on a single character to do it with either.
If they made rep account wide it would fix about half the problems I have with it. It’s an already tedious process and then you need to retread the same tedious process for every additional character. It ensures I get nothing done, in BfA where I ground the most rep ever for ARs, I had all those reps on completely separate characters. I would roll an alt and use it to get an AR. Then shelve it, hop on that AR and unlock another AR. Repeat. I never did get KT or Nightborne and I’m sure none of my characters have even two of those reps in the same place.
I didn’t mind covenant renown because it wasn’t really rep. I felt like you could max it out just in the course of playing the character. It wasn’t hard to max it on an alt without really changing my playstyle. More of that I’d be fine with. Rep until I never need to do it twice again can die in a fire.
The problem is the Renown system as it has presented in Dragonflight does not progress via playing the content I want to do. I miss out on crucial story elements from 10.0 because I didn’t want to do community service in a video game such as making soup or collecting beskar poop.
