Do you use your computer to mine Crypto in its downtime?

Ive recently started, and im kicking myself for not starting sooner. I could have retired now if i mined on my gaming computer while i was in the Army living electricity free in the barracks. C’est la vie. Best time to plant a tree was 50 years ago. 2nd best time is right now.

Im currently using my 2080 in my computer and a 1060 in my kids computer bringing in between $3-$4 a day after electricity costs, which isnt bad for free money with just my computers running while i sleep/at work.

I haven’t been. Haven’t done the math but I don’t think it’d work out favorably for me, with my electric bill being $170/mo already and my machines not being particularly strong (i7 6700k + 5700XT and Xeon W-2140B + Pro Vega 56), plus those are in my living room and bedroom, accordingly so them sounding like jet turbines when I’m not using would not be great.

No, don’t want to deal with tax bs

Ouch, $170? Mine is like half that for an expensive month.

Yep. Typical California, plus I pay slightly more for the “green” option which routes the funds toward wind/solar and funds further creation of renewable power infrastructure.

Literally one of the most ignorant comments ever. You MAKE money and you pay a PERCENTAGE of what you make in TAXES. It’s like those dweebs that say ‘nah I don’t play lotto until it gets over 20 million’. LOL

ridiculous… like a million can’t help pay some things… or even 2 or 3 dollars a DAY in FREE money AFTER tax is 0 net income.

Just say ‘nah, not interested’ instead of sounding like a FOOL

How is this literally ignorant? It’s literally a choice.

My taxes are super simple, I don’t want to complicate it for $100 a month.

This attitude is part of why Griefs…well griefs you.

I mean, its not anymore complicated then doing your normal taxes.

I know TurboTax even has a question on their step by step guide this year if you made money from Crypto, so you would just enter the amount you made, and that’s it. Not like itll really effect your taxes unless you have a full fledged farm and are making thousands.

Be that as it may, it’s a personal choice to not want to deal with it for tens of dollars a month.

There’s nothing ignorant about it…dude is just mad at everything all the time, in every post.

Your response is histrionic.

Not mining. My DDR6X temps from Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC are scary.

What are yours during gaming?

65-68c core
78-82c memory
72-78c hotspot

Well you probably wouldn’t want to mine with an over clocked GPU. Too much heat and power draw. youd want undervolt if anything.

I just reduce the power limit. Minus 5% default, up to 30% for lighter games. My card comes with crap thermal pad. That’s why the RAM is so hot.

Depends. If your taxes thus far are literally just a single source of income, it will at minimum double the complexity of any otherwise templated tax submission.

Not everyone’s going to be using TurboTax. Heck, the beauty of my taxes right now is that I have zero need for such a program and am still done in at most 15 minutes.

Putting aside the qualms I have with cryptomining in general, what little I could gain from it isn’t worth that added complexity for me, either.

Last time I did the math, electricity cost more than I would earn mining.
