Using Warcraft 3s map as an indicator seems pretty poor. I just walked up to Uther and killed him in about three hits. It felt very anti climatic. I hope it went down better.
You were my brother Arthas! I loved you!
3 hits? That seems doubtful.
I’d love to see Uther vs. Arthas as a full cinematic.
Master and Student fights are always fun.
I mean, ask yourself, if Blizzard gave it a proper cinematic, what would they have done?
Probably that. It would either be a real fight, or a Bolvar v. Sylvanas sort of one sided.
He took a lot more than 3 hits in WC3. He’s got Divine Shield up the vast majority of the time and wrecks the weaker undead units you have access to at the time (only ghouls and crypt fiends I believe).
Nope, you don’t even have crypt fiends. You have ghouls and meat wagons and that’s all.
The strategy to beat Uther is to hit him once, run away, and come back when his shield is on cooldown.
Dont they fight in the Arthas novel? What was that like? Or am i misremembering.
I’d like to think it was a much larger battle than depicted in the original, due to limitations in the engine.
Hopefully reforged gives us a very epic remastered battle.
They did, and Uther nearly beat Arthas then.
The only way that that mission feels anti-climatic is if you max your army and zerg Uther. The Paladins will two piece your ghouls and it takes forever for the bubble to go away.
I guess if you’re really talented at RTS no AI mission is going to feel that epic, but for most people I think there is a curve to where you aren’t facerolling the campaign at first, and each and every mission complete feels important.
In the Rise of the Lich King novel the fight is longer and starts with Uther in firm control. In fact, Arthas was just about finished when Frostmourne decided it was going to make itself useful and help out. The runeblade started feeling lighter, more like part of Arthas than just a rigid metal tool, and the fallen Prince started to make comeback.
Using speed and youth to get around Uther’s huge hammer and older age, Frostmourne started connecting with more and more attacks: a nick here, a small cut there, until Uther was totally exhausted and helpless.
Despite his promise to raise Uther into undeath after killing him, Arthas moved on to claim the urn carrying his father’s ashes, and continue the quest to resurrect Kel’Thuzad.
Christie Golden tells it much better than this, if you have the chance, check out the full book. It’s one of the best Warcraft novels ever done.
This is a cinematic I’d like to see!
Arthas: It is time to meet your fate, old man! -Hits Uther once and starts sprinting away at high speed-
Uther: Gah! Hey! Where are you runnin’ boy? -Chases after him swinging his hammer at air-
Arthas: -Runs around a big tree for three minutes before turning around and hitting Uther again- AHA! Death comes swiftly for the weak! -Runs away again-
