Do you think there's anything cool under Teldrassil?

Like, before they planted their new World Tree there after WC3, there was an island where Teldrassil eventually stood.

Once the smoke clears, and people actually investigate the World Stump, do you think they’ll find anything interesting at the bottom? Like cool ruins the tree was grown on top of? Or evil Old God stuff that grew up to infect the tree from below?

The world’s largest stick is buried there, it’s just not big enough to be considered a log although infinitesimally close to being categorized as one. It’s the true bounty of nature.

Even if there was, I am pretty sure that big Tree probably crushed whatever was below, and if it didn’t, the Cataclysm probably did.

Considering that the physical location was replaced by a matte painting… not very likely. I remember swimming around the island underneath as a druid… itw as tree all the way down to the ocean floor.

We gotta sail out to it and find the door in the matte painting, Truman show style.

Open the door and the game ends… permanently.

Legends say that if you dig deep enough, you will eventually find a good story.

It’ll be a poorly drawn on happy face in the middle that some intern in 2003 made.

Why not? There is always room for retcons. Or even new lore!

Even if the physical in game location was replaced with a background… it could always just be the proverbial curtain during an intermission, to be raised when the show continues.

They could always just release an entire Patch or Expansion based on the Charred Ruins of Teldrassil, and even create a story involving a portal at the bottom that leads to somewhere else entirely.

So do I think there is something there - the question itself is a bit odd. But I do think there is potential for the charred ruins of Teldrassil to be revisited as the story unfurls, in some form.

Nah. It’s just the entrance to the Secret Cow Level.

You know, this is the lore forum, so I’m obviously asking about that…not, like, what kind of textures are there if you do a boundry break.

The tree was corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare. That’s already hard canon. Stop trying to put a positive spin on this toxic expansion, Little Drone.

Nah, they would have noticed like they did with Andrassil. There was no more Teldrassil Old God corruption after Alexstrasza, Ysera, and Malfurion blessed the tree.

Cool ruins would be beat though. There were also entire mountains up in Teldrassil’s branches. Would be trippy to see what happened to them after the burning, if they like fell down or something.

I always just assumed the “ground” in upper Teldrassil was just wood, covered in grass.

They look like mountains to me, even in official artwork. For example, what was presented in the announcement trailer for the Traveler series:

And in the The Art of World of Warcraft and the Ultimate Visual Guide:

So those must have been part of the original island and been pushed up into the sky by the growing tree.

I think this too, also I’m pretty sure you can’t actually do any mining in Teldrassil, which leads me to believe there aren’t suppose to be any kind of mountains there. I noticed this when I was leveling a character I like to have both gathering professions and was only able to find flowers.

Seriously though… WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS TREE THAT IT HAD MOUNTAINS ON IT BUT WENT UP LIKE A BUNDLE OF DRIED STICKS FROM SOME FIERY PEBBLES TOUCHING IT???

I remember this post from the EU forums:

"So a future home needs to be:

  1. Not on top of ancient power fonts like the Well of Eternity,
  2. Not near any Old Gods prisons,
  3. Not used as a prison for a bunch of Satyr and left guarded by people connected to the Emerald Dream and susceptible to corruption,
  4. Non Flammable.

So maybe not another big tree :deciduous_tree:"

They seem to think living, well watered magic trees are flammable. I could see the people in Cali thinking trees are flammable because of all the dead dry wood that catches on fire so they just know wood comes from trees and wood = flammable therefore trees are flammable!

I’ve said this before, but the next Night Elf city should be ON THE MOOOON!
