Question in title.
So far the only announced WOW firings that directly make the game worse are CMs and some of the raid designers.
The only fired writer I know of was a proofreader, and with amount of terrible spelling and punctuation errors in BFA…
If it does, I doubt it’d be anyone we’re much aware of.
Source? Ten characters.
We can only hope.
Taking resources away from publishers usually means good news for the game’s integrity.
Sadly the writing team is still intact.
I thought they mentioned some managerial shifts. That’s the only change that I can think of that would change the writing.
They fired one of their proofreaders. So expect more speling and; punktuation errorz in BFA,
With the way BFA has been going there may as well not be a writing team.
The writing won’t get any better whether it does or not. I still get surprised there even IS a writing team with how bad it’s been.
Even if they are not directly laid off knowing Blizzard is cutting off personal that are not tied directly to the development team to increase profits and so called put more work in development must be a bit uncomfortable.
I guess looking on the bright side of the lay offs the Story Forum didn’t have a CM that was laid off.
Christie Golden and Terran Gregory have both said that their departments are unaffected. But amongst how devastated people are today, I find it in poor taste to hope for someone to be laid off just cause we don’t like the story. I certainly don’t like the current story, but as someone who’s currently suffering unemployment from a layoff, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
I’m not hoping anyone gets laid off. I’m just worried how it will effect the team going forward. I know they’re professionals however it still must effect them in some way when a company lays off 750 employees.
Oh no, I’m not talking about you specifically.
The layoffs WERE the writing team.
This is the fruition of activion’s evil plot to turn WoW into a first person shooter with jump sliding and low gravity.
I mean wasn’t that Titan which got turned into OW?
Also I guess a writer was laid off but I don’t know what he did the name is Yannick LeJacq
Or to be more accurate, Activision is laying off scads of people.
“Scads” is unfair. It’s only ~1000 people, or 8.3% of the entire company…
While the company reported record 800M profits. And CEO got a 9% dividend.
I do sympathize with most people going through any RL hardship.
However, it is a business move. Whether it is the right move or not will impact that business.
As a cost cutting measure, it seems prudent. Especially certain CMs with the automated Forums.
Giving their top end business types hefty salaries and bonuses is what those dudes/gals negotiated from Blizz.
If this were a prescription drug company, or a utility that has a monopoly, I might have more outrage, as it impacts people/consumers with little option.
A video game company though… understandable choices.
