I don’t know if they’d ever acknowledge if they did, but, I think a lot of people felt like this was the last chance. It would have been nice with demo locks getting the talent in Wrath next month. It could have been a great choice talent with Summon Demonic tyrant where instead you’re the demonic tyrant, maybe make your hand of gul-dan instant cast “Chaos wave” again with the same effects.
I understand some people will say “technically it was a demon hunter ability in lore” but in real world time, Demo locks had it longer than Demon Hunters had it.
Illidan Stormrage was the first Demon Hunter in WoW lore, released in Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos back on July 3rd 2002
Patch 3.0.2 was released on Oct. 14 2008 which gave Demo locks Meta.
In Legion Warlocks Lost Meta, which the pre-patch released on Aug 9th 2016.
So unless there is a lore book that predates Warcraft 3 DH, DH had it for 6 years before Demo locks received it, Demo locks had it for nearly 8 full years. For many, including myself, this spec was our favorite thing in the game to play, and while the current Demo lock can be fun, it isn’t our spec anymore.
As I said, for many this probably was a last hope moment. I don’t expect a future update to be that kind to us to add it in, but, it would be nice if the Warlock leads acknowledged it in some way.
Thank you all for reading this far,
For Azeroth

Meta gameplay was wildly different than current demo gameplay. No other class has gotten something that wildly changes the core gameplay of the current shadowlands variation of specs. None.
Not to mention, the aesthetic and thematic of meta was given to demon hunters. On. Purpose. Deliberately.
Its not that they dont know; its that they dont care about a subsect of boomer warlocks still clinging to the past. Its just as futile as boomer hunters still crying over survival being melee.

I was very very disappointed to see Meta absent from the demo tree, still hoping they find some other way to add it. But other than that talents look sick

Meta gameplay was wildly different than current demo gameplay.
It wouldn’t be too difficult to implement as a cooldown with a couple of additional abilities, like it was in its original wrath form. Few people expect the MoP/WoD stance dancing gameplay to return, as huge an improvement as that would be.

The reason why people are pining for the WoD era versions of those specs years after they were changed is because they took well-designed and thematically satisfying specs and turned them into complete and utter trash. Had they replaced those specs with something remotely similar in quality people would have moved on years ago.

You aren’t getting meta. It takes a special kind of person to continue whining for something when there has been an entire class for the past several years that clearly shows you aren’t getting meta back.

for the last time “meta” isnt a thing.
it’s like.3 or 4 things.
blizzard is stuck in a no win situation. bring back 1 of them and backlash hammers them into the ground for bringing back the “wrong one OBVIOUSLY YOU IDIOT TWITS!” and just stirring up the shtstorm that surrounds the topic again.
the only right move is to not touch the toxic topic and let it live in the past.
im not even a game dev but cmon this is elementary design stuff. eventually stuff becomes too much hassle to justify and that can include social reasons.
meta is socially toxic at this point, the best, best bet going on is meta coming back as a reskin to something like tyrant. but that’d piss people off as well because “we wanted META not the skin of it STUPID BLIZZTARD~”
we are the reason we won’t get meta back. we burned that road as a community. live with it.

Dude forget about met, it’s got no place in demo nowadays.

I know I want meta back but that’s as likely as winning a lottery at this point.
At least Demo get to summon a Pit Lord.

I’m sure they know, they just don’t care. They have their vision on what they wana do and could care less what the players think.
It’s the same over in the Paladin forums with like, 99% of the people hating on the pony and our mobility issues. They in turn decided to remove the one extra (20% movement speed for 2s every 13s or so) talent we had and double down on us riding the dumb Pony and having worse mobility than in SL while every single other class seems to get even more mobile in DF. I’m done with Paladin now, likely my last post on this toon as I change to a new character.
I hate that pitlord isn’t a pet like the others but at least its there. I’ll still fight to make demo a tank spec or have tanking capabilities so I can be an actual tank.

And we wont stop complaining. We dont care what you think.

False. It still has a place.
your counterpoint is insightful and convincing.
Gonna be honest, the people who don’t want meta back come off way more aggressive and toxic than those who want it back lol. Even in this post people who want Demo back are getting called Boomer Warlocks and stupid whiners xD Everyone who wants Meta back either gives good examples of how to implement it into current Demo, or is just like “that would be nice”

there is a reason for that.
most of the people arguing against this are regular who have dealt with this argument on and off for years. we’ve hashed it out ages ago and understand many problems at play.
most of the people that argue FOR it have a tendency to show up only right before an expansion, demand it, never listen to the other side and then run off again.
that may not justify our old heads having attitude but if you had to beat down folks whining for an outdated concept because “its kewl” for years, you’d get rougher and rougher about the approach as well.
i adored Meta, still do. looking forward to playing it in classic starting in Wrath and continuing on as they play out. but that’s where meta belongs. in the past.

At some point it’s not about what you want back, but rather what is realistic.
I was playing the game when Demo was so hard for the devs to wrap their arms around that we ended up with the whole “we’d rather you not play Demo” saga that still stands out as one of the lowest point in dev-player relations for Blizzard, right up there with “you’ve got phones, don’t you?”, etc.
The same thing holds for ranged Survival hunter advocates: Neither is likely to get their way, for reasons both related to time, design philosophy changes and in Demo’s case, a whole other class springing forth from the MoP/WoD Demo concept that this time around is pure melee at heart, which simplifies a lot of the problems they would have trying to reintegrate it back into the warlock class.
This goes well beyond other classes’ frequent concerns (paladins arguing for Long Arm, shaman wanting a Flame Shock spread mechanic and finally getting it back, etc.). You’re talking about a whole spec re-re-design to accommodate a set of abilities the devs now believe belong to another class entirely.
On top of that, current Demo, even more than current melee Survival hunter, has had a community spring up around it that are just fine with the current iteration and neither want to see it 86ed in the name of MoP/WoD Demo, nor do they want their current Demo spec combined with the old one, for fear of muddying the waters.

I feel like many demo fans just want demonic tyrant to be a choice node with Wrath style meta. Maybe this is a disconnect for us among Meta fans but, in my mind make it a 3 min cd that turns you into the meta form for 30 seconds and changes some abilities like-
Hand of Gul-Dan = chaos wave - 1-3 soul shards, instant cast, deals X damage and summons 1-3 imps depending on Soul Shards used.
Shadow Bolt = Touch of Chaos - instant cast, deals x damage and generates 1 soul shard.
Burning Rush = Demon Charge - charge to your target location, creates an immolation aura around yourself for X damage per second for 5 seconds.
It could also easily work with Demonic consumption and wilfreds. I do get that it doesn’t work for some, but, maybe in my mind it’s a very easy play style to implement. But I do get when people think Demo and think MoP/WoD era and how that wouldn’t work
You’re not getting meta back. They gave meta to DHs, it is never coming back.
