Do you think Shadowlands will be any better than BfA?

Good grief that’s wrong. Many players considered it bad right from the start. That’s why so many players quit so quickly.

Honestly probably not, but I already pre-ordered so I have to at least try it. On paper it all looks really neat! New secondary faction to join, new non-cloak models, actual not timed content. I just cant help but feel like blizz will find a way to mess it up.

Since I’m on the forums, I’ll say “No way, it will be worse than WoD even!”

In all honesty, I enjoy BFA, and SL will be great I’m sure. All expansions have their ups & downs. We can either keep playing & enjoying the game we love, or move on to something else.

my response to this very serious inquisition is a hammy and very appropriately punned turn of phrase “only the shadow knows.”. the pun out of the way we don’t know enough about shadowlands to guess that, though if the cloth through mail options are as intricately themed and over the top as the plate sets for each class design and if the zones are as detailed and fun as shown, then yes it should be much better. anything is better than the corrupted insanity visions though, I liked Kul-tiras and especially drustvar and even the aesthetic of the visions and the N’zoth sub plot as a whole (being into the whole lovecraftian genre of horror), but the gating and general overall mechanical design was terrible as they don’t even explain the first vision to the player like “kill guards then thrall.”. BFA was a pretty “meh” expansion overall, it “mostly” kept my interest but started waning towards the end, it had a good start, and decent middle, but unfortunately a terrible end so if shadowslands is still going strong and interesting by the end of it’s expansion and is still entertaining then that will already have been a slight improvement.

I’m doubtful atm, 5 disconnected zones, no class or spec overhauls, and some could use it imo, and the small number of abilities they revealed to be unpruned seems just lackluster.

Add to that the level squish which I have no problem with, outside the high probability Blizz will need probably a good chunk of the first patch cycle to fix the problems it will cause. I mean look at how well the ilvl squish and level scaling things worked, Blizz had to spend a lot of time fixing problems they caused, hence why I think we will see a repeat with the level squish.

Honestly, SL to me, is looking rather lackluster atm, and there are problems with classes and gameplay issues that need to be addressed, and it currently seems like most of it is being pushed aside.

no

They are going to mess up the levels squish, so I am leaning toward saying no.

No.

From my viewpoint, from what we’ve been shown, Shadowlands will merely be a continuation of the over-systemization of the game we saw in BfA. Systems design has taken the place of content design.

WoW’s design has shifted to providing new, complex systems for gearing every patch rather than providing new content or story progression for our characters.

In the past, gearing was rather straightforward and understandable and our character progression was more tied to the content we chose to engage in — unlocking the Isle of Quel’Danas, the Argent Tournament, progressing through the Firelands, exploring Pandaria’s lore with Lorewalker Cho, etc. Content that changed the world around us and our characters. Even Legion still had this with the progression of the Class Order Halls and the Artifact weapon.

Now? It’s all about new gearing systems that drop every patch and getting us to grind out the system with a series of dailies. The Covenants look to be a continuation of this type of design. And this systemization has been extended to every corner of the game from professions to flight.

Until we get a return to the idea of content over systems, I think we’re stuck here.

Well the bar is set pretty dam low with BFA

And if the shadowlands changes don’t bring back players or new players I think the era of systems over content will come to an end.

Hopefully it leads to a shakeup of the WoW team. #PraytoElune.

So far i fear SL will be another dud, i no longer have confidence in Blizzard to create a polished product.

As someone that left in Cata, I can say it was not just considered bad in hindsight. Haha

I didn’t come back until BFA. I actually really enjoy BFA, and while I consider it to be a good expansion, I can’t be blind to the fact that the majority think it’s garbage.

Anyway, if Shadowlands is a dud, it will be disastrous for Blizzard as a company and for this game. Honestly, I think the WC3 Reforged bungle was more disastrous for Blizzard than I think they realize.

no you are playing shadowlands now all you will end up doing is getting your rng lootbox upgrades on tuesdays,lfr/n/h raids since most cant do mythic and grind a tower instead of visions/islands.

shadowlands is the exact same game you are playing now.if you dont like bfa you wont like shadowlands.

It better be. A lot riding on this one.

Shadowlands appears to be a “return to systems that actually worked but were removed from the game for some reason”. Which should be great if it holds true. I’ll admit, I’m not ‘hyped’ for this expansion, but I am lowkey hopeful.

I can’t believe so many players claim that BfA is so horrible and now claim that a new expansion that won’t be released for another year or so claim the game will be worse are still pre-ordering and planning to keep subjecting themselves to a hobby they claim to dislike. lol gg

Indeed, and if Blizzard is good at one thing it is snatching defeat from the Jaws of victory. It remains to be seen if they can overcome their usual compulsion to add little tweaks that downgrade otherwise good content.

It could be better or worse.

Blizzard has a pattern of tearing down previous systems and adding new ones. Who knows what we’ll really be getting throughout SL.

Not gonna lie, I’m really worried about it. I’m hoping Covenants will be more like Class Halls and less like Nazjatar/Mechagon.
