Say you’re in a guild that’s 6/8H and struggling. And you go in on a off night in some random group you found and manage to get 8/8H, is that wrong?
It’s caused some guild drama before, and the guild had a rule of “cannot progress ahead of the guild, even on an alt”.
Or things said like “you’re not a team player” , “you should progress with your guild” etc

I would say not wrong as long as you still play with the guildmates. If you are leaving guild raid time to play with another guild that is another story. And of course mythic has lockouts so it’s probably more for heroic (unless you do multiple alts in multiple mythic raiding guilds, in which case congratulations on finding the time)
It is not like you are cheating on your guild or something. They are people you play a game with, if you play poker with another group on another night, that’s none of this poker group’s business.

I personally don’t see anything wrong with it, but that’s more of an etiquette thing at that point with your guild, if your guild leader and other members don’t like it when you go outside of it to get the progress, that would be an issue at that point with clashing ideals
“Even on an alt” though is actually wild and going a bit far

No. In fact it’s good to do so. Because then you bring experience to the guild that will be of use when they do reach those bosses.
If my guild had a problem with me going outside of it to get progress it’s to my benefit to leave that guild. Sounds like a partner that keeps the car keys from you. Not a healthy relationship.

Nope. Its your time afterall.
I regret holding myself back in my early years.
I started using alts for guild runs and not my main. I had 2 dks on 1 server back in wrath and cata for this very reason. One was my main, I did everything on. Pugged clears or helped friends guilds.
My alt, I saved specifically for guild prog as to not worry about lockouts.
You do what you gotta do to have your fun. And if you care enough, keep that alt handy. Or just run with your guild first and finish the lockout with pugs. Don’t be afraid to have your fun.
What you do on your alts is your own business, imo.
Also if people are progging ahead of the guild as far as raid prog in pugs, unless you really like the guild, might be time to find a guild that is progging faster.

The big thing is communication. Let others know what you plan to do and ask their opinion. If they are against it and you are OK with that then fine. If they are against it and you are not OK with that, maybe it’s time for a new guild.

Nah, especially after your last raid night for the week then you’re good. The only time it’s really a problem is if you down bosses before raid since you cut down on the amount of loot that can drop if you are locked to the bosses.

In my opinion, that’s just unacceptable. I would not play with people who wanted to control what I do with my account. With my alts?
To me, that’s a giant red flag, and that’s nothing but drama all day. I wouldn’t touch that guild. I’d rather pug raids than raid with a guild like that. Nope.
This is an old game. We have several guildies with other friend groups b/c over the years, you play with people in one expansion and not another, etc. They raid with us on one toon and raid with the other guild on another toon.
I play Classic with a group of people I played OG TBC with, and I play Retail with a totally different group of people I originally met in Vanilla. It’s completely normal to play with more than one group of people in this game.
What isn’t normal is this fascination with trying to control what players do with their game time outside of guild events.
TLDR: That’s gonna be a gquit from me, dawg.

The only time when you should feel the need to communicate this is if your guild is mythic raiding.
If you go 8/8H without them you can still go back and kill the bosses they were missing with them. You just won’t get drops.

Another good point - if it’s better to pug, and you can do better with 19 uncoordinated randos, not in voice, who have never played together before, your guild probably needs to step it up a bit if they expect you to only play with them.
Hard agree. There’s just no excuse for that in an AotC guild. None. The lockout is not the same, and it’s just people being controlling and possessive for no reason.

If what you do on your own time isn’t stopping the guild from progressing, it shouldn’t be an issue.
If you’re locking your main out before raid night with your guild and now can’t raid with them, then why are you in that guild?
Otherwise, there shouldn’t be an issue.

I cant see it being an issue as long as you do it after your guild prog for the week. Doing it beforehand means youll already be on the loot lockout and can lower the total amount of drops from bosses youve already killed.
I’ve had a guild get grumpus with me when I did it before
Sorry I wanted to just get the heroic denathrius kill and you guys were making the fight take over 60 attempts cuz stacking is hard apparently

I think it’s only an issue if you get loot-locked to bosses before your guild’s raid. You could be screwing over your guild with fewer drops.
Outside of that, it seems fine to me.
Listen…I feel personally attacked.

My guild had over 100 pulls on H Denathrius. /nod
because stacking are hard
I know. Trust. I know. But man, we had fun.

I’d say it depends on why you’re doing it. If you’re doing it because you’re trying to find ways to help your guild progress that is good. If you’re doing it for only you, then that is crap (and at that point you don’t belong in that guild and should join the pug you went with).
It’s a variable.
On the one hand, you should be there on raid night helping, regardless of how far you have gotten.
On the flip side, if you joined guild to raid, and you got ahead and are not helping the guild raid, then you are in the wrong in my red eyes.
Like I said, too many variables here…
Then I think you already know the answer, but you want the communities blessing and this player can’t give it

I guess it depends. If I belonged to a group I would want it to be more than just the people I play with. I would hope to develop friendships in the group. After all, it is a game and the purpose of a game is to have fun.
That being the case I would be open with what I was doing and I would be interested in what others were doing as well.
But if you are just there to be a cog in a wheel and all you want is for the others to be cogs in the wheel then fine. As the saying goes, what ever floats your boat.
