When the servers are having issues isn’t it better for the stockholders if Blizzard blamed it on the boogeyman instead of themselves?
Not saying that this is what they do, but would they?

not sure why you think the stockholders would care
I think your tinfoil hat is a bit too tight.
It’s bad for business
Not really, blizz can do anything and people would still play and pay, and they know this
in what way?
the vast, vast, vast majority of microsoft shares are not held by people who play world of warcraft, or people who have even heard of world of warcraft. a two hour window where some wow players can’t log in isn’t even a blip on the balance sheet.
Investors care about how much money Blizz makes, not how well the servers run.
You can’t fake DDoS attacks of this scale. It would be immediately obvious to upstream networks that no malicious traffic was hitting you.
Why would Microsoft shareholders care about a ddos attack against a single game server for one studio?
All of ABK is a very tiny fraction of MS in value. I mean 60 billion is a fraction of 2.6 trillion right?
Do i think blizzard would lie ? In a heartbeat. About a ddos … no, not really. Investors dont really care about much other than their return. Yall gonna spend that money regardless.
They would lie about literally anything to save or make more money…it’s who they are and what they are about.
The servers being down is bad for business. It’s worse when it’s something that they can’t say they will fix.
assuming this is true, it’s not relevant here. they don’t save or make money by claiming some outage is a ddos if it’s not.
I didn’t say anything about the DDOS attack, I’m saying if it would mitigate losses or make them more money, they would lie about it, no matter the issue.
What if the entire issue was caused by some preventative maintenance that should have been done, but wasn’t. Surely them being incompetent would make them look like more a risk than them being attacked by some unknown “HaCkEr MaN”. Again, not saying that’s what happened, but I would never pretend that blizzard is above something like that.
If Blizzard was lying about it, what would the alternative to DDOS attacks be?
The servers would be dead every Tuesday if it was a problem with their infrastructure.
sure, but the thread is about ddos attacks specifically. i’m sure not going to be the one to argue that blizzard isn’t interested in making money
I don’t think the stockholders care about a few down hours for a game that is a minute percentage of the company’s revenue. A DDOS attack on WoW is like Walmart running out of chewing gum for a few hours.
why not.
if they get a lot of ddos attacks, it’s gotta be tempting to slide some other networking problems onto that plate. stay the victim instead of admitting incompetence
sure feels like they just slap a ddos sticker on any networking problem at this point.
Lying to investors is, generally, a federal crime. It’s fraud.
On the issue of ddos attacks, the issue would be easily proven. Or disproven.
Would a major corporation lie? Sure. Would a major corporation do something illegal? Sure.
But they tend not to if it’s easily able to be disproven.
Investor reports, calls, etc are often the best thing we should listen to. Because it’s the best chance to hear things when the corporation in question is going to be truthful. They will lie to us, in press releases. But then be honest in the investor calls.
