I’d almost forgotten about that, then I read the “exciting new changes to systems” preview of, was it MoP? WoD?
Anyway I think have 10-20 quest items in my bags now along with a couple different kinds of BoA currency, BoA armor and weapon “currency,” rep tokens, bags containing currency, etc etc etc
It seems like every kind of currency has two tiers and each of those two tiers has a small token and a large token … Except for the currencies that have four tiers.
Worst part of it all is they introduce new currencies every season which makes it confusing for returning and new players trying to figure which to prioritize.
I feel like the currency tab idea never really got fleshed out before they implemented and because of that it only covered like 1/2-1/3 of the actual currencies.
I think it would be more sensible instead of questing random cloth/leather/mail/plate tokens for random equipment slots, you just got an “X tier token” and an easily accessible vendor.
All the mailbox dancing with alts seems completely pointless.
You could make up for filling up slots more quickly by moderately reducing what is currently an inordinately high drop rate for these things.
Most quest items do not appear in bags. I think the distinction is that items that have an on-use ability still fit in your bag until the quest is completed. Items that are just quest objectives are just check boxes now.
Currency is in a weird spot. I really wish they would just simplify the whole thing and stop adding so many new currencies in every patch.
Make gold meaningful for buying new items from vendors.
Track objective completions instead of handing out currency to determine what can be purchased (similar to a reputation vendor locking items behind Honored, Revered, Exalted - lock items behind daily/weekly objectives).
Instead of capping how many upgrade crests you can collect each week, cap how many you can spend each week. Now we don’t need to come up with new items names all the time, and folks have less incentive to try stockpiling. Nerd the drop rate in old content of you’re worried about folks grinding easy/outdated content. But if we’re keeping the gear upgrade system, then it should be built to last instead of feeling temporary.
With as big a deal as people make about the dreaded currencies in this game, you’d think it would be unnecessary to invent more just to pad the totals.
You know you can just vendor these if you don’t actually care about them, right?
I think there should be a currency overhaul. There are too many currencies in the game. Here’s what it should look like:
Low level currency (think Flightstones) drops off open world quest mobs, quest rewards, and normal dungeons.
Low-mid level currency for heroic dungeons, mythic 0 dungeons, LFR raids, and low level delves.
Mid level currency for mid level delves, mythic+ (up to +5) dungeons, and Normal raids.
High-mid level currency for mythic+ (up to +10) dungeons, heroic raids, and high level delves.
High level currency for mythic+ (over +10), the secret highest level delves, and mythic raids.
Old expansion currency (think Bronze) to purchase the old stuff.
Under no circumstances should there ever be a currency that’s tied to a specific expansion ever again. Current stuff gets the first 5 currencies, and old expansion stuff gets converted to Bronze. That’s all there ever needs to be. Just reuse them till the end of the world… of Warcraft. Take everything considered a “currency” (looking at you Anima) out of the bags forever. When the new expansion launches, convert all the currencies to the old expansion currency so we can still use them for transmog.
That’s seriously the extent of the currency we need.
