Do you prefer old dailies or the new world quests?

It’s something I think about a lot when i consider how much fun I have had overall at endgame in different expansions. World quests do not give me a feeling of completion that the old dailies did. I feel less encouraged to complete them for the end goal they drive towards but really only for the immediate reward it might offer. The quests don’t feel as much as way to tell a story now.

I tend to blame this new design on why I don’t enjoy the endgame like I used too. It’s a little less involved with the world I guess and feels way more repetitive to grind them then when I would travel to a specific area to perform a daily that tended to have more specific themes and feelings to them. Pandaria had A LOT of dailies but like world quests you could still choose to do what you wanted to focus on but it felt like a separate adventure from the other daily grinds. Everything feels like it all blends together now in a boring way.

That said I realize world quests are faster to do and reward more things. So that makes me curious, what does everybody else enjoy more? Did you like doing dailies back then to spend time in the open world or were you more focused on dungeons and raids anyways? Did they feel more useless back then or were you excited to hop online each morning to get it done?

Thanks for reading.

I find the profession world quests to be dull as possible. You only hand things in and compared to older profession dailies I must say I much prefer dailies. Dailies just felt more involved while world quests feel hollow.

As a solo player who doesn’t do dungeons or raids of late, I really really appreciate world quests. I love that it gets me out in places I might not travel. Most all of them I’m able to solo and there is usually someone else around on the ones that are harder for me. I believe giving us more options so we can choose is helpful. There are dailies still available and world quests are in addition. I wouldn’t object to them adding more dailies for those who prefer them.

The dailies were good back then because they had some nice rewards locked behind them. Now days it’s just ability to socket or get conduits.

I miss having that 1 high ilvl item from exalted rep

After you’ve done them all a couple times, they all blend together either way. WQs tend to have a little more variety than traditional dailies, and they’re more convenient. There’s not much difference between the two in my mind other than the method of acquisition and completion.

World quests are way better

World quests give more variety and a better feeling of completion because at least they go away for awhile after doing them.

I also like when quests aren’t always up because some areas are good for farming cloth or leather, and the influx of people when WQs are up make farming a pain.

I like the mix of both of them. I don’t particularly like that there is a random voice in my head telling me to kill 10 boars vs. going to a camp and helping the local faction kill 10 boars that are ruining their harvest.

The World Quests where we are meeting up with someone to do something, like the mini game ones, I think are better.

I love the profession ones, they’re a good addition.

I like the amount of different WQs for choice, but they do feel… weak… compared to older dailies.

I miss daily quest hubs.

I’m tired of the voice in the sky screeching at me
I’m tired of areas being randomly phased.
I’m tired of mobs randomly popping in and out of existence.

I loved the way TBC through MoP did it.

I found the MoP Daily quests to be a serious grind that was un-fun because we were really stuck doing quests we disliked at times. Forced content is not always fun content. I also hate feeling like if I miss a day that I am behind.

I like World quests from Legion to SL quite a lot. You have a faction you are working on, rewards for the faction, and Paragon chests with more rewards. What I like is:

  • That they are NOT daily. They are every 3 days on rotation so I can skip a day or two and not feel like I am behind.

  • I can select from quite a few quests in order to complete them.
So if a quest is up I dislike, I can just do a different one or wait until they rotate. Having 8-10 options when I only need 4 quests is pretty nice. Multiple ways to accomplish a goal is awesome.

  • Rewards scale! I can keep getting increasing rewards which makes them feel less pointless. My alts appreciate this.

  • When done the gear rewards, there are rep rewards that are Cosmetic. I just got the last toy from the Callings. Sparkle wings!!!

What I also like about the Legion through SL systems is that we DO have actual daily quests we can do. They are not forced though. For example I can grind rep with Marasmius the mushroom guy for access to soul shapes, transmogs, and pets. It has a more personal feel than the open world things, but does not feel forced. Same with the rep tied to our various Covenant activities. I can engage in those stories and systems without feeling forced.

My current take is that the Legion to SL system is decent and offers both without feeling quite as forced and boring as MoP daily quests which could be tied to gear/raid needs.

Slightly off topic, I still feel that if you don’t raid/mythic that there is no alternative end game in WoW. What is there for non group players or non raiders? What ENDGAME do they have that is fulfilling? It should not just be endless rep grind World Quests or daily quests.

I don’t like both :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I basically never did dailies (not counting things like jewelcrafting dailies) until world quests were added. World quests are better because they don’t require as much work from me to figure out which ones are available, what the rewards are, etc.

The only thing about world quests that’s actually worse is when they disrupt your gameplay by forcing you to dismount when you enter the quest area (e.g., the wisp quest from Val’sharah, which is still in the game and was never fixed) or when you have to complete them to make progress on a separate, non-repeatable quest due to phasing issues or whatever

i like both classic and retail quests. Only ones I hate are the escort this bad pathing prisoner straight through the enemy camp and who targets mobs along the way.

I like the world quest style from Legion. Today’s world quests (some not all) can be maybe one to many steps.

I enjoyed dailies fine, but WQ were a nice change, not having to go to an NPC, pick it up, go to said area, do it then go back to the NPC. However, SL WQ were a big step backwards.

I prefer dailies. Personally while people fret about ‘being behind in dailies’ that’s ALSO the same freaking situation with WQs. I keep looking back at MoP, how it had questing hubs that revolved around some theme. Now it’s just 'Oh, that specific WQ has the item I want".

Takes away from just going to the spot to see what’s up today.
Now are there advantages with WQs? Yeah, it’s a nice convenience. But I wanna shoot myself the next time I gotta hear Magni or some other person tell me something. Korthia dailies are probably the worst set of dailies I’ve ever seen though so theres’ that for the daily quest haters.

It’s just sad.

Psychologically, I like world quests to work towards one focused goal and limited goal. Some particular rep maybe. But for general stuff like gear currency or artifact power I like short world quests.

The difference being - a rep is one and done thing, and I can choose not to do it. While general stuff like artifact power or gear upgrade currency is farmed constantly and I wouldn’t want to go to one place to farm it.

It really depends on the rep. Some of it (depending on expansion) is required to get access to various things used at end game. Flying in past expansions being one of those things. That makes it feel mandatory. I am not totally against that, but prefer when that sort of mandatory thing is limited.

I understand why folks don’t like them but part of me oddly misses dailies in Pandaria. Sure we had what, a 25 daily limit? But I liked deciding “Eh today seems like a cloud serpent day. I’ll dedicate my chores to that for the day”
