Not advocating for either, just curious what the community prefers
Neither, I’d prefer more marginal scaling on the current gearing system.
Edit: Lower honor costs to upgrade.
Corruption and tf.
Honestly at this point, i just want consistent bi-weekly tunings.
Hell, I’ll take monthly tunings.
stat template
i just want to play my alts with minimal effort lol
current system is decent tho, just increase conquest per week and reduce honor to upgrade and its insane
I mean the gear advantage feels nice, but a template would probably be better.
I liked the templates so I could realistically play alts without playing the game like it’s my job.
Current one
Depends on Blizz willingliness to keep tuning things. If their plan is to tune the game once every 6 months (like in BfA), then I think templates are better. The current system isn’t that bad, just need to fix a couple things here and there (ilvl disparity, upgrade costs and rate gating, etc) and it would be much better than templates.
Also, another option, would be customized templates, allowing players to redistribute their secondaries during the match prep time, to adapt it to the comp and playstyle.
100% agree
As someone who consistently pushes 2400+ I enjoy the gearing system.
Equally as someone who plays alts with friends the system is terrible because the brackets are filled with overgeared players.
neither give me WoD
Templates + vendors imo.
I’ve been on the rpg gear treadmill for 15 years. Personally idc anymore. I just want to log in and pvp for the most part and not have to play like a second job and worry I’m falling behind when I can’t always play.
At first, I really wanna hit that 1800. Now, I just want to have some fun in arenas and get that extra gear from vault.
If Blizzard is going to take this long to do any meaningful balance changes and treat PVP has a side game, then stat templates only make sense.
^ This.
They take ages to balance anything and most often than not, they go with a terrible approach.
We need some scaling back till they up their game.
I would rather have a MoP of gearing… because conquest points being used to buy this seasons max gear was better.
My complaint with WoD system (some will say WoD I know) was the RNG system they brought in with Ashran to get trinkets, that really annoyed me because you had to RNG luck out in Ashran to get trinkets, and that is where it allllllllllllll started.
With WoD came the corruption of RNG farming, Mission tables, Garrison abilities and the wee beginnings of borrowed power.
WoD was the beginning of the end for WoW, it was the expansion that destroyed the game.
I like this system, I just think you shouldn’t be able to que with people 200+ rating lower or higher than you.
Neither, because Blizzard has managed to bastardize both and basically just take the worst of both worlds.
Ilvl in general is a completely flawed gearing system, and the stat template they implemented was a hamfisted disaster that was still heavily influenced by ilvl.
They need to go back to TBC/WotLK style gearing, where there was effectively one set per season, and everyone was on equal footing for the most part. The gear you got from honor during s2 was the s1 gear, and the difference between those was nowhere near as significant as the difference between 197 pieces and 220 pieces. The notion that better players deserve better gear is flawed by itself.
TBC will likely strike a huge blow to retail PvP, because while it has its’ faults with class balance, the gear balance is infinitely better than the absolute dumpsterfire that is SL gearing (not even taking into account the current issues with class balance, which are obviously a huge issue as well.)
Needing 4-6 different tiers of gear every single season to set different levels of content apart from one another was a terrible idea and only led to unbelievable power creep and balance issues. We’ve had two stat squishes in what, five expansions? Despite the largest stat squish happening for this expansion, we’re still likely to see health pools eclipse 100k+ by season 3.
SL made some improvements by going back to a lot of older mechanisms, but huge design flaws still exist and from the looks of it, will never be rectified.
wod gear system still reigns supreme. this system not bad, just needs what wod had where pvp gear scaled to a higher ilvl in pvp combat
