Do You Play Wow Without Add-Ons and Google Searches?

On one of my other posts some people were adamant that to succeed in Wow a player needed to resort to packing on a bunch of third party add-ons and conduct google searchers as well as visiting help-guide websites and watch Youtube videos in order to play Wow successfully.

My question is are there any persons reading this post that have never used add-ons, done google searches etc. Not have done any of the above and been successful in playing Wow to max Level and content? In the sense that you didn’t need any of this to enjoy the game and still performed as a good player?

The ones that I know that dont use addons and search wikis are often the ones that do less damage than healers in raid.

Even if you could, why would you want to? That’s like saying “hey could you play this sport without watching it, reading about it, or expending any effort outside of playing it”. Like sure, yeah you could show up on the field each day and wing it. You’d be pretty terrible though.

It was a useless question in your other thread and it’s still useless here.

If you’re angling toward some “modern WoW requires outside sites” angle, lemme sit ya down and tell you the tale of Thottbot, kiddo.

If you have two players with a similar skill and one researches and uses addons, and the other does not, the latter will improve significantly faster at the game than former.

But what you design as success is completely up to the individual.

If your success is defined by your accomplishments in end-game, naturally you’ll be less successful without addons or third party sources.

If your success is defined by how much fun you have roleplaying, or leveling alts or whatever, then it doesn’t really matter either way.

addons are tools.
online game resources are tools.
yes, of course you can play the game without them, but… why would you?

RP addons are the only ones you need.

The moment the game became more than showing up on raid nights, having fun with tsfriends and seeing how far we could get that in night with minimal required assistance from addons, it became not fun. And I’m talking about things like DBM and Vent being the required tools

Then you add in the fact that if you spent the season doing the content, it’s pretty much erased on the rest day, along with the various catch up mechanics.

Then add in the overall toxicity levels from PvE content these days…just not a fun environment

I’m just a casual. I don’t use many addons. But the ones I do, you can pry them out of my cold, dead hands.

So Vanilla?

I like my addons / Google.

I can play with or without addons. When my main rig CPU or GPU dies, I switch to my small PC that has no addons. Raided with it too. Its the same as playing in vanilla. Been there.

I’ll use searches & guides if I’m completely stumped on how to do something.

I will never use add-ons.

I don’t use add ons but I do Google searches.

At the beginning I did ,didn’t even know there was addons and there wasn’t much of class and specs to make any determinations,so basically it was all guess work ,til I wanted to do dungeons and some raids,I was a mess didn’t have any bag help ,no auras ,didn’t know if my spells did any damage .Went to the dungeon had no idea til bro mention it to me ,Two years playing oh gg.

PvE is so scripted there is no reason for add-ons. Looking up guides, gear and items? Necessary.

Only addons I use are rp related, and prior to that the most I used relating to performance was Recount. Admittedly I pretty much only quest these days, and I highly doubt that leveling leisurely factors into most people metrics of what counts as success in playing WoW. That’s their problem, though.

Same. But I do use google search.

no addons or searches for chilibean<3

As long as “succeed as a WoW player” has an extremely low qualification…

Then I guess someone might.
