Soul of iron is the only way I want to play SOM. Obviously this cannot be done on a pvp server, you would never make it past lvl 20.
Death =delete makes it really fun because if you die all your work and progress is gone.
It makes me care about my toon more and my investment in it.
The community seems more close nit to me that is hard to find in other in other expansions of the game.

Are there a lot of people doing the “extra” stuff on Shadowstrike? I’ve run across people with the buff that are apparently playing as you are so they aren’t anti-social with folks without the buff and will group/work together. Is that the majority?

The respawns are mostly better, now that the initial pushes have passed.
I don’t but I feel bad when I come across a soul fragment or see the emote pop up in bottom left that a SoM player died…
Was in wetlands on my baby mage last week, and Som mage thought he was safe afk’ing on the ramp at the digsite.
I come back from being afk at the dwarves in the cave, see a raptor standing over a iron fragment where he had been. Body was gone with no skeleton so he deleted it… poor guy.
my Undying lasted until the first room in deadmines.
I won’t run dungeons. I skip most group quests, as I don’t trust other players. The PvP changes in TBC encouraged me to work on my toons there for a bit. I suspect I will come back to SoM soon to finish leveling the paladin (36, no deaths.) If he ends up dying, I’ll probably still finish leveling him, as it’ll allow me to have a level 60 toon on another server.
As a tank I’ve run a couple dungeons that included people who hadn’t died yet. I’m sure they were glad to see I took it serious and made sure they had the buff by the end
I’m doing SoI this go.
I’d estimate 70% of my deaths were in dungeons, 30% were me being overconfident and/or just a general dork, with the remaining 5% from other player training me.
I try to play as normally as possible, which includes pugging dungeons, grouping for elites, doing quests while they and mobs are still yellow.
Because of that, I’ve only gotten to lvl 32 so far. I may make one that levels like Cauchy. See if that has better results. Still going to see if I can get farther while chancing it with grouping too though, living on the edge. Haha

this is an MMORPG. if you cant multiplayer, the experience is miserable.

This type of response shows a basic misunderstanding of MMORPGs. Being surrounded by people doesn’t require me to group with them any more than going to the grocery store requires me to share a cart with 4 to 39 other people to achieve my objective of cooking a tasty meal. Sure, I can do that if I want, and I often do (don’t get too hung up on the metaphor), but I am still a perfectly happy, functional, contributing member of society if I choose not to.
I was originally on Obsidian edge, which happened to be the Hard Core. I didn’t know that when I first made my SOM toons, so none of them were soul of iron.
It wasn’t bad at all, occasionally there would be a quest bottleneck for a mob, but I would just go somewhere else, and come back later. I transferred everybody to shadowstrike when transfers opened up.
I do have a hunter with the buff, but it’s just to see how far I can go without dying. it’s not HC so I do the AH and stuff. No dungeons though.
