One of the hardest things about settling on a class is accepting all the specs. Do you choose a class based on the spec you specifically want to play, or do you choose your class on what they can do as a whole and then bounce around between specs?
One spec per character which is part of the reason why I have 30 something characters. The exception is my main ret paladin which has a tanking offspec in case I want fast queue times or need to tank something like a world boss.
I choose it solely on the spec. I rarely if ever play multiple specs on the same character anymore. It’s too difficult with trinkets/stay weights and everything. Way easier to just stick to one.
I only play Arcane Mages and Holy Priests. Uninterested in the other specs.
Sir, i play specs, not classes. Which is why i have 3 Druids
I chose my class based on the name of it alone… been playing it ever since.
but no, I don’t play my offspecs.
I used to. Ive done top pve and pvp with all 3 specs and multiple classes. But holy priest has been my favorite and “main” spec since vanilla.
Since BFA ive stuck to pure holy no matter the meta. I dont have interest in anything else anymore. I like the archtype and i dont play as much as i used to nor do i care about the same things anymore.
I go for a specific spec and i’ve never played all specs of a given class ever
I’ve never touched prot in 15 years of having a paladin, ret i’ve only specced into to clear old raids fasted than holy shocking each mob individually
I play monk and priest as my secondary healers and i’ve never specced into ww/brew/shadow/holy

I have absolutely no idea how prot paladin works beyond stand in consecration
Dk might be the class i’ve come closest to playing all specs, but they’ve changed so much over the years its not at all similar. Blood in wotlk, frost in cata, blood in mop, unholy in legion
I prefer a class based on how much fun they are and I also consider the class lore, I don’t choose based on FOTM. Most classes I play one or two of their specs only.
One spec per character unless you only have like two characters.
I dabble in every class, mostly for variety I usually stick to the spec I enjoy most in the role I prefer (DPS) but if it can fill other roles I’ll at least try them to see how it feels. I found out I enjoy blood dk after playing strictly dps for years for example.
Back in Wrath, I played many classes.
Now, I play all classes.
Never I’ll be playing all specs.
I’ll usually stick to, at most, 2 specs per class if hybrid, one if pure DPS.
Tend to play all specs from time to time, can’t play any particularly well but I like the variety.
I’ve mained a BM Hunter since I started playing, and continue to.
As for alts, the only class I play all three specs (when I play them), is Mage. I have three of them because it’s easier than constantly changing specs on a single character (for me.)
But BM is the only spec that’s ever held my attention. Every other class/spec I get bored with very quickly. The only reason I play them is for transmog.
BM Hunter till I die. ![]()
I go by play style first and when I find the spec that clicks I stick to just that spec.
Yes, but to be honest only half a dozen have been leveled this time.
I haven’t played disc since the Legion mage tower.
I usually play affliction or destruction. Demonology isn’t fun for me.
I know arms and fury well enough, and I keep up with protection enough to tank in a pinch. Usually if a tank drops from a heroic or timewalking dungeon and I want to keep moving.
I feel like that’s just being responsible
I play a spec, not a class. I enjoy playing outlaw, I don’t enjoy playing sin or sub. This is why I don’t like the X specs per class system. Why am I stuck with 1/3rd specs I enjoy in a class? Why can’t I pick my own 3 specs and combine them on a character? (yes I know why, I just don’t like this).
