I’ve done both, listen to the game music as well as my own. Though I normally have the game turned down a bit to hear the sounds around me. I usually listen to my own more in pvp…for some reason this seems to fire me up more to punch faces. 
Game music, and it has been very lack luster in SL…
If I’m farming herbs I might turn on something chill (vaporwave/retrowave or trance) and sometimes in random BGs and in war mode I’ll turn on something that gets me amped up (Pendulum, Celldweller, Blue Stahli, etc) but otherwise I just leave the game music on.

I prefer in-game music unless I’m fishing, in which case I prefer metal and hip-hop. I particularly like to check out new artists or albums while I fish.

I listen to audiobooks.
I listen to music and not ingame music. Mostly techno and trance with some rock and punk depending on my mood. I listen to stuff like metal and speed metal for pvp though.

Okay, gotta tell a story. My daughter-in-law has 3 mom’s; I’m the last. Both sides of her divorced parents were giving her hell about the wedding before she married my son. She stayed diplomatic for a long while. Finally one day she called me crying hard about all their bs and she finally told them off. I jumped in the car and the first song on the radio was Highway to Hell - I busted out laughing!!!

I’ve tried this form of “multitasking” by listening to podcasts/audiobooks while playing and for some reason just can’t swing it. Either whatever I’m listening to bounces off the side of my head or I’m running into things and dying in-game. I just can’t split attention that way and it makes me wonder how those can manage it.
It’s weird because I can multitask other kinds of computer work just fine, but comprehending what I’m listening to while playing is nigh impossible.
