Just curious. I’ve used MaxDPS for both Brewmaster and Windwalker for years and I dunno if it’s hindering me from being better or if I should keep at it. I realize it tends to lack context for Brewmaster, but for Windwalker the addons seem pretty spot-on. What’re your opinions on rotation maximizing addons like MaxDPS or similar?
If you need an addon to maximize your DPS then you’re not good.
Just saying, you react to situations on the fly, your rotation isn’t like a tanks rotation and shouldn’t be linear CD trading.
For brew you should be (mostly) working on safely making bigger and riskier pulls before just pumping out as much damage as calculable. A lot of brew max damage output is just niuzao cheese at golden opportunities that may not be the best for the encounter as a whole.
Edit: sorry, that was also in a m+ context. For raiding, once you’re safely not dying, you can put on more offensive gear. We’re not really single target pumpers, so unless it’s an add fight we’re not gonna push spectacular dps numbers.
I don’t know what type of content you do but rotation addons will generally get you close to “expected output” due to the nature of just being built on fundamental things like getting all your cooldowns rolling, stacking them, spending all your resources, etc.
As a good benchmark for your performance and where your at as a player I would say that you can expect to outperform the APL when you start hitting fundamentals on your own + optimizing from there.
The APL is not really built to do that and while all of us in the community try to make it as best we can, there is still a lot of room to go higher in human gameplay.
IM GOING FULL MANUAL, TALB
I use a custom addon that shows my cooldowns, but I took out the part that recommends which spells to use. Blackout Kick lights up when it’s free, but otherwise I do my rotation manually.
Yeah I definitely am not good at DPS. I swear I studied rotations and stuff on my shadow priest when I started playing wow at the last week of BFA but I never got reasonably close to people of my ilvl or what my Sims said. Lack of corruption obviously hurt with comparison to others, but if you really just don’t know what you’re doing wrong as DPS would it be better to use it a bit to kinda get the hang of it?
My filthy casual opinion is this is a video game and it’s your money. Play the game the way you want. There’s a few million downloads on Heikli and Max dps so despite what people say… a lot of people are using it. Plus who really cares what people think.
