new hunter here, rekindled my interest in bfa by boosting a class I havent played much before. As a pvper I was always really interested in survivals unique playstyle and im enjoying it a lot. But obviously I am aware that BM is the spec to be for pve content so Ive messed around with BM as well. Ive played almost every class and spec for at least some period of time and I gotta say, BM is one of the most DansGame specs ive ever played. So I was just kind of curious what the consensus was among hunter players, do you guys enjoy BM or just play it because its the best? IDK what it is, just the minigame of keeping your 3x barb shot stacks with rng resets and your pet does all the damage⦠seems so boring :\ its way more fun to throw bombs and hit stuff. Havent tried MM yet but even that looks far more interesting. The focus management also seems so much more interactive for survival than it is for BM.
Having fun regardless! gonna stay survival as long as I can before people start flaming me
I only play BM because itās the ābestā right now. Fortunately for me I donāt arena, never have because I despise the pillar humping/merry go round play style that it involves but I do love BGās. BM and MM both do fine in BGās, so Iām happy with it.
People donāt flame those that actually enjoy survival, what we donāt appreciate is those that tell us tough luck for losing our favorite spec or get over it, stop whining etc⦠You enjoy survival the way it is, I hope that Blizzard doesnāt do to you what they did to me. I just want my RSV back in some way.

i find fun where i can but not the fun i used to. i used to have the frenzy mechanic that let me be bland and simple if i felt like it but there was always the option to put myself to the test at the same time.
the most fun iāve had in the past few years was just pulling big dps. there hasnāt been fun mechanically for me since wod.

I find it awesome, amazing, and insanely fun.
With current choices as is, bm is my most favorite. Tho in past it was my leveling spec, but changes affected that yrs go. I just wished they mix in some more ranged skills from bow. I mostly play shaman now but the pets is main draw holding me to class and spec does let me have two out.
In legion for some reason I was really enjoying BM. Iām not sure why in BFA i just donāt find it as fun. Iāve been playing Horrific visions as BM and or SV and for some reason Iāve been doing better as SV. I enjoy SV so iāve been dabbling with it. But I do play both.
Frankly, no, i dont, but you cant argue the numbers.
Its amazingly easy to put out stupid high numbers while watching a movie on the side monitor.
In short, its boring, BUT, its also effective, thus the conundrum.
When I came back for BFA, I really didnāt enjoy BM much. I hated barbed shot, cobra is boring, kill command isnāt exciting either. So taking 3 boring abilities and repeating them a billion times certainly isnāt fun. It would be a little cooler if the abilities at least looked cool to use and had a bit more flavor.
BM has been my pve spec of choice since they ruined MM back in the day. It did get more enjoyable once I got azerite powers and better gear in general. The lack of burst at lower leves and ilvl really makes this class dull however.
Iāve been a Hunter since after Vanilla after they made DPS Warriors obsolete in TBC as they can no longer tank while on DPS specs and they had zero CC. Hunter became my favorite class⦠as they have tons of CC. But the main feature I like with them is that they are Range and they have a pet. My playing with WoW has already peaked in Vanilla and it peaked again on WoTLK but I was with Hunter after Vanilla onwards.
Now fast forward to Legion after I came back to WoW (as I always leave WoW), I played my Hunter again. And I was looking for the usual stuff I like with the Hunter⦠it has to be Range and has to have a Pet. Survival became melee⦠so I have to say no to it. MM lost its pet due to its Lone Wolf passive ability⦠so I have also need to say no to it. It left me 1 choice⦠the BM Hunter who is still Range and still have a Pet.
I had some melee toons with my Warrior from Vanilla and with a DK from WoTLK. But when I want to be range, I have to be with Hunters. I am not playing Hunter to become melee again like my Warrior or my DK.
Pet is very useful when I solo. I need something to tank for me especially when the going gets tough.
BM is fun. I can tame Exotic pets. And my pet is a solid tank. I am become unkillable on World PvE with this setup. Since I am unkillable to many fight scenarios, I can wear heavy Corrupted gear.
Also BM is the most mobile of all the Classes in WoW. All our attacks have ZERO cast time. We can continuously moving while doing our DPS rotations. Since are we are very mobile, we could handle easily the negative effects of Corruption allowing us to wear more Corrupted gear than other Classes. We are perfect for Mythic +, heroic/Mythic Raiding and Masked Full Vision Runs. BM is among the best on 8.3.
On Raids and on Mythic +, we are arguably the best Range candidate to be chosen for invites. We have Petās Lust, we are Range and we are VERY mobile.
Survival Hunters is the least played melee Class. They have to compete for raid and Mythic+ invites against the meta⦠DHs and Rogues. If you are melee and you are not DH or Rogue, good luck. In addition, Warriors and DKs are your competition on the group invites.

BM is so weird to me. It feels nice and fluid most of the time but the abilities almost feel like nothing is happening if that makes any sense.

Iāve never been that into it from a RP perspective, just not my thing. Iād always been survival untill legion nuked that, then I spent most of my time as MM.
BM has high mobility, survivability, and easy high performance. Iām not a fan of juggling pet buffage. However, end of expansion gear levels, talents, and traits combine to make Barbed shot balancing kind of a non issue.
For the content Iām doing, itās just the best tool for the job atm.

I like it, but Iām really enjoying marks right now, too. I use a pet for solo play because I hate kiting, but in dungeons/raids I go lone wolf unless Iām on hero duty.
Itās really fun. I enjoy 100k+ Aimed Shots haha.
no because I donāt like having most of my dmg not be from me but from my pet.
No, I find it intensely boring and I havenāt played Hunter much because itās been the best for two expansions now. If Survival or Marksman were competitive with it, I would be playing the class more.
BM is my favorite spec overall and I do enjoy it quite a bit. I havenāt tried MM or Survival much beyond getting the legion legendary weapons though. Swapped a time or two to tame a pet but I always come back to BM. BM is my answer to soloing PVE content.
I donāt like BM, I like MM.
Just play BM because itās the best while Iām still gearing up and levelling my cape. Plan os switching to MM as soon as I cross the 465 treshold

Yes I like it. I like to have a pet class and having 2 is more fun for me.
Is the funniest class I tried to play solo with.
I liked a lot affliction lock in legion but I still prefer my BM hunter.
PVP wise maybe they need a bit of love but you can do quite well tho.
Beast master is really fun in battlegrounds and dungeons. Less so in arena and long raid fights. Itās pretty spammy so I donāt like it too much
I do love MM these days. Mogāing in a quiver and an updated Rhok model thanks to legions mage tower just may be my favorite thing. Also the spec doesnāt feel weak to me.
That said, BMās tool kit is just too perfect a fit for horrific visions and thatās the content that interests me the most ATM.
