I just buy those pages in advance before entering the zone. It’s immediate chunks of XP for trivial amounts of money. 100% worth.
Once you go through the first few humanoid quests, you have some if not most of them. I just buy the last few I need. Fair amount of XP for something that only really takes bag space as you’re already doing stuff to complete it for other quests…
I don’t bother with the ashenvale page quest, but I always do the stranglethorn one. After a few quests, I already have a dozen of the pages, so why not buy the rest? This is a very profitable quest for no real work.
I did it back in September and all the pages were on the AH for mere silver so it was super cheap to buy the ones you couldn’t get as drops and finish the quest. I assume it’s still the same.
The Ashenvale one isn’t as bad since you can combine pages on the fly without having to return to the quest-giver.
Two things.

Super easy XP, I think it ends up being around 9k for all the quest, plus some loot to sell. Considering if you level in STV you’ll collect the pages from mobs, or you can buy them.

It makes decent money if you farm a bunch. I would be able to sell one occasionally for 50s if someone was trying to finish their chapter. But, more often then not, I would vendor stacks of the pages.
I just did the Ashenvale one the other night. Did all the other quests in the zone and I ended up having to buy 2 of the pages off the AH. I had a bunch of other extras which I’ve sold on the AH.
Totally worth it - but I agree that it’s not my favorite method of doing a quest. As something extra you can do while doing other things? Sure.
Once you can pick them up I level up ~75% collecting & trading as I go. This usually leaves you with very few gaps, plus you can sell duplicates. When I reach the mark, and the quests are still red, I will hit he AH for a cheap deal to fill in the blanks. It might be too costly right then, or some missing so I will park it and take a break (at least on that toon). They gain some xp rest bonus, however small, but I may end up caving and cough up the money.
Since the quest gives lvl 40 gear. I just hold on to the pages in my bank till 40 then turn them all in at that time. Clears up inventory space a lot.
I usually decide not to do it but find I have so many pages I finish it anyways
I was vendoring them because I did not want to do the quest but I’m only halfway to my level 40 mount and 2 levels away. I’ll probably be auctioning more of them now.
F uck this quest. I have limited bag space as a Hunter becoz i have less bag as i used a bag slot for my quiver. Then i am carrying pet food and water.
