Throughout the years I have noticed in many different mmorpg games that there are more female characters than male character running around. This cuts across PC and Console gaming.
During my hours over the years of watching Youtube gaming videos I have also noticed most of the Guys reviewing/playing games create female characters. And most of the Gals created male characters.
Which leads me to the question: Why do guys create female characters in games?
Why do Gals create male characters in games?
And does the Wow Barbershop in cities; which offers the option in changing a characters gender in-game, help in not having to re-roll a character from the start due to gender change? Does this create a greater convenience for you?
Edit: Recently in several other games. Character creation is handled with a third choice. Which is gender neutral or androgynous appearance. Would this be an option for Wow character creation?
Both, but I am a roleplayer, so I kind of create characters to be characters, not necessarily to be a representation of myself. I sort of think of them as an individual person in the WoW universe, and not an avatar. I think if I just played the game with no intention of roleplaying I would play as a basic male human warrior, because I’m a male human IRL lol.
That being said, I think a lot of people get into the “RP mindset”, in that they think of characters as “this is the paladin I play”, and “this is the warrior I play”, or “this is the druid I play”, without ever actually identifying with any of the characters, or creating a character that is supposed to be a representation of themself.
All of my characters are guys because I am a guy. I know most people have varying reasons, but one of the worst is “well if I have to choose between looking at a girls butt or a guys, I choose a girls.”
I’m too busy not simping over my character to make sure I am playing well enough or doing what I am supposed to be doing. Although, that may explain why people play so poorly…
I think it honestly depends on the character model. But most of the time I end up creating female characters because I am female. But if I’m playing an undead for example, I’d go for a male character because the females look ugly and I can’t have fun with the customization.
Mostly female, but as they all have some sort of connection to one another, be it family, or otherwise, a few males sprinkled in makes sense from a head canon perspective.
Personal character concept and story reasons for the most part. Certain race and class combinations come to mind, and even the sex of the character is crisp and clear. Otherwise, models and animations. For the longest time I wouldn’t touch female worgen because they looked like cracked-out chihuahua hookers on introduction. Or preferring the male anims for my BElf paladin in WotLK days, given, basically the same thing anyways.
To answer that final question: In this game, at least, female characters on the races I tend to play have less crazy-exaggerated features so they’re nicer aesthetically.
Male, however once the barber shop allowed you to swap for a few gold, I’ve switched back and forth depending on which model my current transmog looks best on.
This 100%, some of my characters are male, some are female. I create a character to be a person in their own right. Me playing a female Nightelf is no different to me playing as Lara Croft in Tombraider, it’s a charcter with her own story that I as a player am witnessing.
I thought it was an interesting question. I’m female, only play female characters.
I have tried to play a male but just can’t. I think for me it’s a relating thing.
I have to be able to relate to the character at least a little otherwise, it’s not going to happen.
I know that sounds dumb because pixels and it’s just an image, this is why I find the question interesting. Makes me wonder why I’m like that.
