So an MDI team got certain runs DQ’ed due to the use of a dragonflight potion, “Potion of Shocking Disclosure”. So you don’t have to look it up, this is what it does: Use: Envelops you in a field of static for 30 sec , discharging every 5 sec to deal 9207 damage and reveal nearby enemies. It was used in the first pull of DFC so the tank could generate threat easier.
I don’t know the letter of the law when it comes to MDI rules, but I’ve heard that it wasn’t against the rules, that it states you are only prohibited from using gear outside the vendor but doesn’t mention consumables. For me, the spirit of the rules are more important than strictly following every letter of the law. I don’t think they thought they were exploiting and the “advantage” it gave them was extremely minor. It doesn’t matter to me which team this affected as I’m not rooting for anyone in particular, I just think it’s kind of an unfortunate DQ, though I would be less sympathetic if they were explicitly and clearly told not to use outside consumables, but I don’t know.

They tried to use a technicality to gain an advantage…
I’m sure they knew that there was a chance it would end up this way.
And this is how we end up with directions, warnings, and TOSs that are 47 pages long. Everyone has to have everything spelled out so they dont try to pull something like this.

This was not against the rules.

Something something Dairy Queen? Sorry what’s DQ mean in this context?

They seemed very surprised when they were notified and if they thought there was a chance it would DQ them I’m sure they wouldn’t have used it as it’s not big advantage. It’s also only used in the very first pull meaning a mess up isn’t costly as they can reset infinitely.
I also don’t think it’s a technicality. If it says you are prohibited from using gear outside the vendor that seems extremely clear in meaning. It would have been trivially easy to replace “gear” with “anything” and the meaning would have been clear.

I would have to read the entire rule book but I wouldn’t DQ them. I also heard it was less than 1% of the entire damage it was just an early threat grab thing.
But my initial reaction is Blizz has to show me where it says specifically this isn’t allowed if you’re going to ban for it. If they found a loophole then you tell them don’t do it anymore and tighten up the language before the next MDI

Twitter is fuming over this. The rule was made and enforced on the fly to stop them from advancing.
To be honest, everything is so strictly managed for those MDIs and TGPs, why not have their own realm too? So us simple folk can have class balance changes when they are running?

The OP already pointed out that they didn’t do it for the damage. They did it to help the tank generate threat/keep aggro during a big pull.

Someone already stated a simple word change would have fixed this.
They said don’t use “gear,” from outside of Dornogal… if someone spend 10 seconds to change that to don’t use “anything,” from outside of Dornogal this doesn’t happen.

Huge difference though. Huge.

That’s why I mentioned the threat, my point from my next post remains… Blizz coups have changed don’t use gear from outside Dornogal to don’t use anything from outside Dornogal and this is a non issue
The admin said they broke rule 6a
(a) Gear:
During the full duration of the Mythic Dungeon International, you are only permitted to use the gear provided by the special MDI vendors (you can also use any of the pieces of gear already equipped when you create your character). Acquiring gear on the Tournament Realm from dungeons, raids, or other sources to gain an advantage may result in disciplinary action.
This rule is strictly about gear and NOT consumables and also doesn’t specify the vendors in Dornogal. They made up a rule on the spot. Any judge would laugh you off in court blizzard.

The only thing consistent about the rules in WoW is that they are written with heavy legal team involvement, players have no venue to ask clarifying questions, and even if they do ask someone who knows the answer… the person is not allowed to answer.
Until this changes, these kind of misunderstandings and sources of confusion will continue. The rule book is fairly long. Not horrendously so, but long enough that without the ability to do some kind of Q&A it’s going to be difficult for players to understand the spirit of the rules.
Forcing everyone’s compliance to the LETTER of the rules propagates the current rule lawyering culture which helps no one. It’s not beneficial to the company, and it’s not fun for the players. It’s WoW’s decision. I accept their decision. I think the whole situation could’ve been avoided with a little Q&A and it’s highly frustrating that there’s not enough interest in taking time to improve transparency and clarity of the rules across all areas of the game.

The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?

No I don’t agree, but this should show them they need to fix tank threat in keys
If they aren’t allowed to use them then disable the item before the contest

I personally think if you’re creative enough to test and use items or potions from previous xpacs, you should be rewarded for that creativity.
If blizz has a problem with specific items, those items should be specifically stated and banned by blizzard in the rules

We going back to “wait for three sunders?”

Potions are not gear. Unless there is some other wording in another rule they shouldn’t have been dq’ed

well, where did the team obtain the potion of shocking disclosure?
if they somehow were able to still obtain these potions on the tournament realm, then the potions should not cause a disqualification, as that is blizzard’s fault for allowing the potions to be obtainable on the tournament realm.
