when avenging wrath isnt up i feel like i do pretty much no damage. When BoP or DS isnt up i cant fight more than 1 or 2 people at once at all because theres just too much CC even with BoF and the chances of you getting stunned/polymorphed, etc is just going to ruin your damage. it feels like more often than not, when i templar verdict someone, their hp bar moves like… 1 or 2 pixels.
Sometimes You will get lucky and be able to buff up with avenging wrath, etc, and not get CCd without DS but its a huge gamble i dont feel like is worth ever taking.
even on low geared players trying to dps them with no cooldowns is often pointless. they have to be really dumb and just not try to get away at all unless they are 25k hp or under.
for context every gear piece i have is 7/7 honor gear with no legendaries or conquest gear.
i am pretty new to WoW so i might be doing something wrong so i thought id ask the paladin forum.
I found your problem. Everyone is fully 280ilvl in pvp with 84k health right now.
Also no, with both tier set, wings proc pvp talent, divine purpose, and vanquisher’s hammer necro spell, you should be absolutely crushing people left and right.
dont hold avenging wrath for special moments or you will rarely use it. dont get attached to it just blow it on CD and chances are after the GY run it will be near back up
I believe next season, which is effectively a gear reset, is a month away. Maybe wait until then? Also you get a massive amount of damage from legendaries and tier set. You can’t turn honor gear into tier set, only conquest.
Some general tips:
Necro is our best covenant right now.
One of your legendaries has to be Unity. The other should be Final Verdict which increases the damage of TV by 15% and doubles its range.
Lock in these two PvP talents: Unbound Freedom and Aura of Reckoning. The latter gives you a short duration Avenging Wrath every now and then. It’s most effective if you can game it to pop when you need it, but that may be advanced for a newer player.
Law and Order (another PvP talent) can be useful if you’re getting kited a lot. It’s not strictly necessary though. In arena your third PvP talent will usually be Blessing of Sanctuary.
The group finder tool has an option to find arena partners who want to grind conquest rather than push rating. This is a good way to begin acquiring better gear.
You should really be acquiring conquest gear and spending honor to upgrade it. But if you’re capped on honor atm, the honor vendor sells (on the last page I believe) chests that contain Marks of Honor. There are vendors in the Seething Shore battleground and elsewhere out in the world that you can spend these on to acquire potions. One of these potions increases damage by 30% for 12 sec, while the other heals you for 50% of your health. They are on a shared 5-min CD.
If no one on your team is picking up the Berserking buff in battlegrounds like WSG, go ahead and grab it. That’s another 30% damage.
The engineering tinkers Nitro Boosts and Goblin Glider are helpful for not getting kited in unrated battlegrounds. They also double as great escape tools.
If you look at my armory you’ll see there are gems and enchants and stuff that increase movement speed. This is much less important than legendaries, tier set, and ilvl, but it is helpful.
BoP can break you out of physical CC that has already been applied to you such as Blind and Kidney Shot.
You can preemptively use Blessing of Sacrifice on a teammate that’s taking damage. For the next 12 sec this will keep you out of CC that breaks on damage such as Polymorph or Freezing Trap.
Dunno what race you are, but human paladins sit a little bit less CC than other paladins. Exactly how this works depends on which PvP trinket you use.
It helps to be aware of the abilities your opponents are using as you may be wasting damage into defensive abilities that are a little bit harder to notice than the obvious ones like Ice Block. One day you may want to try an add-on that allows you to customize what you see on your nameplates (BigDebuffs, Nameplate Auras, etc). They’re okay out of the box, but better the more you make them your own.
Sometimes your target gets away and your best option is to switch targets, to heal, or even to wait to mount up.
Sometimes your target didn’t get away but your best option is to use Freedom to drag them towards your allies. If you’re in trouble you can WoG yourself while doing this.
Not a good choice, unless you have a healer. Otherwise you’re going to be dead long before it procs usually, especially when you have no gear. Probably get more out Luminescence, as it at least it procs off your own heals and the Anima Sphere conduit(provide it heals you, doesn’t work if you’re at full health). Plus it also stacks with every other paladins using it too(Found that out fighting a world boss, had several paladins including myself using it. Had several buffs of it up at nearly all times, that it push my Final Verdict damage base on the tooltip to something like 19k.)
You know its not you that has to make a crit, its your allies within 40yards recieving a crit, which happens so damn frequently. In a bg you should have perma wings.
Yes I know that. But it still has to stack up and the buff is just six seconds. It’s a cool talent which is why I run it, but it’s not that frequent in a random battleground. Where it pops off a lot is a place like SS vs. TM brawl which is just constant large team fights.
Same with retribution aura. So those two things together in a large team fight and yeah you’ll have near constant wings.
Aura of Reckoning is hands down our best damage PvP talent if you track of it. This can be done by squinting at the top-right corner of your screen, or by using a WeakAura. Vengeance Aura isn’t terrible, but it doesn’t allow you to turn around and burst someone 100-0 like Reckoning does.
As Fylerz pointed out, you don’t personally need to be crit to get Reckoning stacks (although that does help ).
I havent done random bgs in a while, but even in solo shuffle or 3s it procs god damn often.
And with a dh on the other side, their eye beam guarantees you a wings proc. Because its all crit damage, so if they cleave it its instant proc, and you can kick it near the end to deny them the haste proc.
