Because if so, it’s working. I don’t hate her because she’s “evil”, I hate her because she has some of the thickest plot armor I’ve ever seen in a story, and everyone in said story, FOR SOME REASON, didn’t want to address what she was doing up until late-BfA. She legit just did whatever she wanted and no one even attempted to stop her (except that one time in legion).
Despite how nonsensical this is, Blizzard decided she was valid enough to include in 2 different expansion cinematics. I fear for when Sylvanas is eventually killed off, as I feel she will just get replaced by a character who is written this badly from the very start.
Have you ever considered how much more exciting BfA would have been if it was Vol’Jin vs Anduin, or even Varian? I sure have.

Writers want to tell a story. Whether you end up hating a character is up to you. There are plenty of players that still like Sylvanas. Some on the verge of worship.

Honestly even though its warcraft its pretty clear almost none of the characters really want to fight anymore. Vol’jin would have no reason to attack Teldrassil really so it would be out of character. Anduin likewise doesn’t want to attack the Horde. Any character that actually does promote war between the factions is usually turned into a villain and killed off. Makes you wonder why we even have the faction divide anymore.

They want us to like her but now realize they don’t have the writing talent to get out of " we used genocide as a throw-away plot point and everyone is mad" jail
They made the jailer a cartoon cutout of a cartoon cutout of a cartoon bad guy [aka baldy mcnippleton] to try and revive sylvanss as a good guy by comparison and it isn’t working because nobody cares about this nothing villain blizz has conjured up from the ashes of snidely whiplash

I feel like it’s more of a case of multiple writers each with different ideas of what they want the story to be. That’s why characters go through massive personality shifts. It depends on which writer is driving them at the time. Half the writers want Sylvanas to be a monstrous villain while the other half want her to be a sympathetic anti-hero. The result is a monstrous villian with forced “woe-is-me don’t you feel sorry for me?” moments which satisfies no-one.

All I see are potential pixels that I can stab, though the same goes for any npc. Honestly, why can’t we murder quest npcs after we’re finished with them?

Personally? I’ve never cared for the character, ever. She was always just… Okay.
Writers have bias towards Sylvanas, Anduin and Jaina.
No Tyrande no, because she didn’t do anything meaningful, even with the Night Warrior powers she couldn’t acomplish anything. The only way to redeem Tyrande is her doing the killing blow against Sylvanas so she can make vengeance for her people and for Azeroth.
But of course, that won’t happen, because Sylvanas has the most op skill of all WoW which it’s “ENOUGH!”

I feel like Tyrande getting vengeance will only send her down a similar path like Arthus once did, then Sylvanas, and perhaps soon to be hers.
As far as something horrible happening to them, then they go for vengeance, they succeed, then they turn into that they at one point hated.
At least to me I see somewhat of a similar story here, though perhaps that is just me.

Define hate? For me it’s something you loathe to the point you have the visceral reaction to destroy such an abomination once witnessed. That’s something I feel for no one, even evil personified.
Where’s Strahd in Ravenloft? is all I can think when I go to Revendreth & Sylvanos is just one of Soth’s banshees that got a bit too sassy.
She was at her height during the bfa opening cinematic where she screams for the horde. Her fanboys were everywhere. Then things started to get Wierd… And then she killed saurfang one of the most beloved horde. Then she mangled lichking and broke open a new world… We are gonna be chasing her into outer space next xpac…
