Do the devs resent the playerbase?

Look at how long it took to revert some of the GCD changes, I expect the majority of them to be back to how they were pre BFA eventually. Why did it take so long? The prot war was a completely miserable experience and those GCD changes could have been made on day 2 after the patch to correct it. But why not?

I believe that the devs of the game look at the playerbase with contempt. They cannot understand why people are not happy with the rides in their themepark so they choose to slow walk obvious fixes. Maybe they are overly prideful? Weren’t there videos at previous blizzcons of devs talking down to fans? “You just dont know it” and how can we forget the Diablo Immortal debacle?

If WOW is a fruit and the tree is blizzard, then I feel the tree is rotten. Inside the tree there are no longer devs (atleast the ones that call the shots) who are passionate about the game and want to please the fans. Instead there are resentful, spiteful, childish people.

I keep wracking my brain about how things can be so upside down at times in the game, where obvious fixes can make a world of difference and its like pulling teeth to see them come true. I wouldn’t be surprised if the blizz devs are an echo chamber where they only listen to themselves and block any outside input or critiques.

Yes, they hate us. Because we actually demand they work for our money.

They’re likely not big fans of the forums with posts like these.

Its not like I’m lashing out at them with rage and anger, its just honest opinion as to what I suspect its like at blizz based off the things we’ve seen.

I feel that if someone is scared of going to the forums because of negative opinions then they’re shutting themselves off to feedback.

They`re too busy playing with their phones to be bothered to listen or care

No, they don’t hate us. I just think they don’t have enough seasoned experience behind this expansion. The bugs, the terrible azerite system and constant push for esports chases the MMO people away. If I wanted to play esports, I would play overwatch, CSGO or dota 2. I enjoy a MMO to see a story and get gear with my friends in a raid or dungeon.

Scared isn’t the right word. More like, going to the forums rids them of any positivity they may have had in their body.

But keep in mind the CMs are paid to do it, so…

i think they just got tired of Ion only asking “ok so how much /played will that add” to everytihing they dev’d up : /
add the xmas bonuses being removed and well…

There is no telling how they feel towards us players because they do not communicate.

Communication is key in any relationship. When people stop talking to each other bad things happen.

They removed the feedback and suggestions forum during alpha or beta, can’t remember. It’s my estimation despite how many times they say they do, they do not enjoy the players’ feedback.

Are you suggesting the “playerbase” is a hivemind that all want the same thing?

Why would anyone suggest that? We can’t even agree on pizza toppings.

Just like anyone knows from working a retail job, if you are compelled to do something for people you hate (and lets face it all customers are #$%^ on some level) you will find joy in malicious compliance.

It is easy to tell nobody working at blizz has any passion left, and so they want to do as little work as possible as to not get fired. That plus the fact that activision has curtailed their allowance means they are now getting paid less than the average game dev to keep a 14 year old game alive that they probably hate.

I’ve never understood this idea that we need to post only coddling praise or the devs will get their feelings hurt and stop working.

It’s their job to interact with posts like these. With every post. If they only accept praise, then we end up with stuff like BfA.

Blizzard has always been slow to course correct and they never admit mistakes were made. They certainly give off the impression in the way they communicate that they just think themselves above being capable of being wrong, its just the players that don’t know what’s good for them.

The game’s early success instilled quite a bit of hubris in the devs and they don’t realize it isn’t 2008 anymore.

From all the way back in Warlords when flying was snatched away and then reluctantly returned with the petulant addition of pathfinder, I have noticed a mean-spirited streak whereby the development of the game seemed as much designed to put players in their place and show them who was boss as it was to actually further the game.

Any amount of this could be put aside as conspiratorial, just paranoia and baseless navel gazing. I get that. (That might even end up being the quote.)

But I keep seeing it over and over again. Obvious problems are left to molder, community problems left to run rampant, player advice and constructive feedback from the anecdotal to the analytical are simply ignored while the exact problems predicted occur exactly as they were expected.

Thread after thread after thread filled to the max of players wanting this thing or that thing and the development community gives something random as if they have no clue what players might possibly want.

Or they give something close enough to show that they do indeed know what the payers want, they just refuse to give it over. (Enjoy your void elf, all you High Elf posters).

And if they ever do have to capitulate to players wanting what they want, they will make sure to load it up with as much pain and effort as possible such that the end result sucks the life out of what was gained ( a la flight)

Just recently, an addon used by the RP community was broken for reasons no one can really guess at. Maybe because players were actually enjoying its use.

I don’t know that the development segment of the game is contemptuous of the players who make their wishes known or have actual fun in the game.

But empirically… it doesn’t look good.

It takes a LOT to walk back a design strategy. They clearly believed that adding in the GCD would result in a better game and wanted to wait for the dust to settle. After it settled, we still hated it terribly.

I think the biggest issue is that a small percentage of players demand changes with no actual concept of the cost or impact is of making them.
Blizzard does not work for you. You can play their game or not but instead people create silly back stories like this in an echo chamber of negativity.

And no, just because you give them money does not mean they work for you.
