Do rares spawn on a specific timer or does it start the moment i kill a rare?

Basically, I am killing Xy’rath the Covetous for the red sword. Once I kill him, does the timer for his respawn start? or does he always respawn as specific times? (e.g. 10:15, 11:00, 11:45, etc)

depends on the rare. some of the ones in dragonflight are on a timer.

other than that, for the most part it’s when you killed them last, and the time they could respawn is variable.

edit: looked him up. looks like he’s on a 30-60 minute respawn timer. it will be based on when you killed him last.

All rares are on timers. But the timers can vary wildly from rare to rare. And the timers are typically not static. TLPD for example has a timer of between 2 to 8 hours.
