I remember some time ago ( years) there was always text rolling on various channels. Now I see nothing. Do I have something set wrong? Are people just doing audio chat? I don’t do audio chat.
Most people just use discord. There are some invite only custom channels people banter in but wow’s been conquered a while ago. Least outside of certain trade chats.
Such a shame. I miss it, but certainly understand why that would happen.
I still type when I am in a group. Don’t like the voice chat thing.
Can you be more specific on what you mean by “chat channel”?
Trade Chat is always going, that I need to turn it off. But, no one is having a conversation in there, if that’s what you mean. It’s just a lot of link spams with “WTS”. I don’t think legit offers are even made in Trade Chat anymore.
I tried offering up a guild I had on a random server, in Trade Chat, but I didn’t get any replies when posting it there 'cause the spam was pretty wild. Soon as I offered it in SW General Chat, I got a couple of offers. And managed to give away the guild on that server.
I’ll see “thanks” posted at the end of some (not all) LFD groups. Sometimes, I’ll get responses to some whispers I send out like “nice mog” or “cool mount”.
Being on RP servers, though, typing in text chat is what we do, in order to RP. So, I might have a warped perspective…
Maybe its my server. I tune to the trade channel but see nothing. Maybe I have something set wrong. I don’t miss the gold sellers, but at least that would show me its working
Could be server dependent, as well.
IK some (not all) will say “servers don’t matter”, but they still do, in their own weird way LOL
You’re on a Connected Realm. By default you can assume if you’re connected, your server and the others you’re connected with are low population.
The entire group of realms Arathor is connected with collectively has about 1/3 the population of Moon Guard alone, and there are bigger servers than Moon Guard. And that says nothing about faction balance, I don’t know how it is on your server(s).
People still talk in text chat channels, but it requires an active server, and yours is not one of them.
That said, it’s honestly mostly Trade Chat. Some servers also use LookingForGroup as a pseudo world chat (type /join lookingforgroup). But again, if it’s not an active server it’s gonna be dead. But on Moon Guard it’s seen a lot of use recently because people have been out doing things in TWW Zones but still wanted to chat, so they use that.
Dungeon Runs will be mostly quiet unless something goes wrong.
Same for LFR / Raid chat.
Guild Chat will depend on the Guild, but a lot of people just use Discord for that kind of communication unless they’re linking an item or something. Annoying, but things have definitely shifted that way. Not even necessarily voice chat, just, Discord text chat instead of in-game guild chat.
They created the Services trade chat channel. That’s where the spam lives now.
That’s true. The Carry Spam (not really gold selling spam these days) is all in an isolated channel and has been for a bit now.
But it’s been on by default on every single one of my characters so it’d be kind of weird if it’s off for OP. That said, it’s an actual garbage can. Don’t join it unless you’re specifically looking to buy a carry. Leaving it is one of the first things I do every time I touch a city on a new character.
