I was around then and I didnt lose a single toon. All my toons I wanted cloned over got cloned over.
We in Classic are actually doing this for free. Retail is the sub. Classic is just an added bonus that Im sure the dev team secretly wishes would go away.
honestly i would take my character with 0 gold. but i’ve heard GDKP has ruined gold anyway with all the china bots and inflation so i highly doubt 60’s returning would have any negative effect…
Crazy is thinking you’re entitled to a clone of your character long after the service went away. Expecting people not to lie through their teeth every time they feel entitled to something may be some wishful thinking on my part but its not crazy.

You are not alone, I know so many people who want to clone. I personally would pay >$100 to clone one of my characters easily and I have 3 to clone. Though if they brought it back for the full price of $35 I’m sure nobody would complain.
Best thing to do at this point, is accept it, and move on.
If you leveled back in the day to 60, the process hasn’t changed any.
While I am in the same boat as you, had max level toons, banks full of mats, gold, and anything I could think of that I wanted, I quit back in '08. My toons are gone. game discs are gone, I barely remember the names.
So here I am, 10 toons rolled and leveling every day.
Also, for the folk who are still holding on to hope for it, in the weekly Council meeting clones were discussed. It isn’t coming back. They may or may not have a snapshot still of every character created since launch, they admitted that one was taken, but said that it was too much data. They was not clear on whether or not it is available, but gave the impression that it is archived somewhere, and someone up above the Council has said “NO” on any chance of restoring that data to us, for any amount of money.
The decisions being made at Blizzard are actually insane. How this is not a thing I don’t understand. Blizzard can make money out of this kind of thing and we all know it’ll only be available if people pay for it.
Just don’t play the game. It’s not worth your time…
