To be fair, “rank and file troops” ended when we were taking down the Firelord and Hakkar. Not many footmen/grunts can do that.
With that said, I too agree with the thread title.

That ship has sailed lol. And void elves can’t be pallies but can be dks
this is giving me big yikes.
Why is it always Dracthyr making these sorts of posts, with this type of tone?
I would say you don’t need the same classes on each faction. That is what used to make the factions more unique. Shaman was originally only a Horde class. Paladin was originally only for the Alliance. It gave each faction a more natural identity. Such a shame this was changed. Both factions don’t need the same thing. It makes it boring if everything is the same. I miss when picking Horde and Alliance mattered. I hope Blizzard brings back faction identity. Not everything has to be the same. Not to mention it was more fun when you could not group with the other faction. It adds depth.
Shaman was originally only a Horse class.

This is not about ethnicity. It is about culture. They are defined differently. Ethnicity is the quality or fact of belonging to a population group or subgroup made up of people who share a common descent or cultural background. Culture is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group. In the real-world cultural norms do affect what path you take in life. For instance, I am from a culture that rejects technology. When I embraced it, I was cast out of my family and culture. I was not allowed back in. I was no longer recognized as part of the group. This is more common than most think. Culture and societal pressure heavily effect what you can do in some cultures.
Lol Typing fast.
You still did it though and that’s an important point I think. Being an outcast who dabbles in ways that are not normal in their society may be a backstory someone wants for their character, much like how Warlocks exist like, at all. There shouldn’t be Orc Warlocks since it’s shunned by Orcish society, but that was around since the beginning.
You having that cultural background doesn’t preclude you learning to use technology though. Why would someone having a cultural background where druidism isn’t a heavy focus preclude them learning such skills when comingling with others from different cultures?
I agree, remove class/race restrictions.
Having some comsic magical force from beyond the universe preventing my kul tiran human from becoming a paladin breaks my immersion.
Why? Forsaken, Gnomes, Void Elves, Blood Elves, and many other races have no connection to Shamanism. Goblin Shamans are even dumb.
Cuz there is no magical cosmic force (in lore) preventing a gnome from going to their wildhammer friend and asking to be taught the ways of the shaman.
DF opened the door for many races to be able to be shamans.
As someone who mixes chocolate and peanut butter, I thought you of all people would understand.
the problem with race restricted classes is that they assume a static, non intermingled world like what existed in the warcraft rts games and the very beginning of world of warcraft, where the races rarely interacted outside of very specific and often tenuous alliances, night elfs had not yet joined the alliance and tauren had only just found out about the existence of orcs, and so on.
but we’ve been in a world of warcraft now for the past 20 years where every race has intermingled thoroughly culturally with every other race, you have night elfs living among the humans, earthen have made their way to ironforge and stormwind, the nature loving tauren and the nature destroying goblins have now been close allies for over a decade, and so on. there are ample opportunities for say a gnome who is elemental curious to buddy up to a draenei and pick up some shamanism, apparently night elf mages are no longer off limits and druidism can take more exotic forms including dinomancy. not to mention just about every race in the game now has been taught to summon demons.
a static world with restricted classes to races assumes everything is unteachable and that these races are closely guarding their secrets and not interacting with each other, which just isnt the case in the world of warcraft anymore. if you can teach someone to summon a demon why cant you teach someone to hunt them? a great many races can turn into ghost wolves but turning into a cat or a bear is somehow more difficult? the kul tirans managed to stitch together bear forms out of twigs and leaves, im sure dwarfs could figure it out. the kul tiran lore proves that druidic magic can also have many origins, while the worgens connection to the night elfs proves that druidic magic can be taught.
you also have recontextualizations of the classes identity, such as the tauren paladins getting their light worship from their sun god. you now have light animated undead which paves the way for forsaken paladins.
even in the old world of warcraft lore, you have races getting access to new classes like when gul’dan taught the orcs how to become warlocks and death knights.
so i disagree with your position categorically
The decision to allow all races to become any class in World of Warcraft has the unintended consequence of breaking immersion and diluting the rich lore that has been carefully built over the years.
Wrong. It does nothing of the sort.
Some people are mad when a progressing story doesn’t remain static. That’s too bad for them.
If you want a static environment, there are single player rpgs.
What ever nonsense you base your little theory on… it makes more sense that the various Races would learn to value what they bring to the table, and want to learn how to be different classes after seeing them.
Or in the case of the Tauren Rogues… we just didn’t see them.
That ship has sailed long long ago.
Just let everyone be everything now
Than go play fortnite were you can have all the copy paste class design you want. People like yourself are a key component in why rpg writing and game design are trash now.

Just go play a shooter.
Not a single thing you said makes any sense in regards to the topic of race/class restrictions.
but go off I guess
I’m kind of glad Ion took the position of that racial expansion of Shamans, Druids and Paladins will work differently than other classes because they have always had very specific lore and the thought of certain race/class combos is pretty lore breaking or downright silly so I’m glad they will still be somewhat restricted when the time comes.
We’ve no indication they will be restricted, just that they will have original race-based assets for chargers, totems, and druid forms.
