In terms of PvP it is unfair for a faction to have a class when the other doesnât. It would also make faction balance worse in both PvE and PvE.
Imo warlock, shaman and DK shouldnât be Alliance from a lore standpoint, but in practice things have to be this way.
Alternatively:
Open up all classes to all races.
That is all.
Okay nobodyâs forcing you to pick one of those combinations then.
These conversations are always so frustrating lol because itâs so often the loudest two extremes on both sides are âYou cannot have unusual race/class combos because the lore says you canât!â (it doesnât) and âWe should have all race/class combos because lore doesnât matter!â (it does)
The reasonable thing is to simply say that new lore can and should be added to justify new race/class combos. Time, care, and effort should be put into ensuring the new lore works smoothly with existing lore.
I look at something like a goblin shaman and I think âwow, on the surface level, goblin culture doesnât seem to line up with shamanism at allââbut Blizzard did it, and they came up with a really fun lore justification for it, and I think thatâs awesome and should be encouraged. Somebody somewhere in development asked âwhat would a goblin shaman look like?â and instead of shutting down the idea, Blizzard said hey, letâs cook with that for a minute.
Creativity is cool. I want to see more of it.
This.
Blizzard is far better at story crafting and culture crafting than just slapping a class on everyone. I want all races for all classes but it should be something where the race in question has a cultural bent to the class to show how they integrated the concept from other races into their own culture.
Blizzards already set an interesting stage, as an example, with void elves. We have a npc in the rift that is a Paladin and she calls herself a âwielder of the Eclipse.â Its a fascinating concept that I cannot wait to see them expand.
Giving justification through a creative means for a race that otherwise wouldnât likely have a class is a very good thing.
Also Tauren Paladins did the same thing and most folk enjoy how that went. >.>
I was like âOH BOY! No pointless chatgpt links in text!â - They had it until the last few paragraphs ![]()

donât forget lightforged. I would think that for lightforged there is the conflict of literal light vs fel energies. and DK being open to anyone, even races that we didnât fecking KNOW about when DKâs were being made. or is there something going on where we are making more of them now, bc I thought that stopped at the end of the DK starting zone line. vulpera would not be a new race to us if they were around when DKs were being turned. similarly, we would NOT be shocked by kul tiran druids if they were wandering about in the Dream. very jarring to me to see some of these combos, but it is ultimately Blizzâ perogitive.
(I may also be bitter that belves didnât regain druidism before literally any other newly druidic race. there were canonically belf druids, but every single one went with Kaelâthas and got killed??? really??? and even if they were mostly resto druids or something, it still makes more sense, imo, for belves to take up druidism again and learn the other specs as opposed to many of the other decisions they have made.)
Remove them all. Draenei Demon Hunters. Pandaren Evokers. Human Shamans.
They already removed too many to not break immersion (I would say Tauren Paladins was the first time this really happened), they just need to remove the rest. Go big or go home.
They explained this at the beginning of Shadowlands. After Arthas fell and Fordragon took over, Fordragon raised new DKs with the existing races, at the time.
Vulpera, Void Elves, Pandaren and the lot all fell into the DK pool.
Raising Dracthyr as DKs is out though, now that there is no longer a Lich King at all, along with any new races that might happen in the future. It would be a REAL stretch for them to explain any new DKs beyond Shadowlands.
Societies evolve, especially as they explore or are discovered. The more exploration that is done, the more things that are learned and adapted(or corrupted) by the exploring societies, and the societies they discover and come in contact with. Adhering to tradition stagnates a society and will eventually lead to its extinction. A theme that I point out that is prevalent in a lot of fantasy and sci fi stories. Quite a few that are filled with people in them that go against what is considered the ânormâ of how things are done and become something they werenât supposed to become, do things they werenât supposed to be able to do because of how others thought their world worked. Sure, in some itâs discovered that they had ancestors that could do those things, but in others there is no logical explanation for why they could do that. LOL thatâs the beauty of fantasy and sci fi, the suspension of belief ![]()
So, this means that a Night Elf, a race with a deep connection with nature, canât decide to forge a path through shamanism?
Or maybe even a human who lives in the wilderness, they canât choose to embrace the elements or even nature as a Druid?
Theyâre in the horde until the first famine, then they are good again
I agree and youâre completely correct, unfortunately the majority of players donât care about the lore except for when they decide they do like in BfA and Slands.
gotcha, thanks for the info. havenât gone thru Shadowlands stuff yet since my hiatus, trying to catch up on other stuff first
We have seen undead paladins that fit into the lore, thus we should be able to play as them.
From WotLK were they are mindless but still had access to the light, to now the arathi have the undead in the dungeon have control and able to use light.
I think a lot of it is just how broad the interpretation of classes have become (something I donât think is a bad thing, but I get why it might bother some).
Tauren Paladins arenât Paladin the same way that Human Paladen are Paladin. Theyâre Sunwalkers. They still use the light, in a manner of speaking, itâs just⌠different.
Priests are, imo, the biggest example of this. Human Priest, NE Priest, and Troll Priest are all very different. They all represent religious intent, but from much different sources. Yet, mechanically we focus them all under the same in game class because functionally⌠They ARE all priest.
Forsaken light users never did bother me. Weâve had established lore since likeâŚThat âOf Blood and Honorâ book that says anyone can use the light if their conviction is high enough. I do like that it hurts like hell to use it though xD
