Do not overnerf Ret, Possibly Nerfs (real)

I’m going to make a thread like this because I saw another guy make a horrible one with nonsensical nerfs that Blizzard might actually do because they don’t know how to balance and either do swingy changes to the upside or downside. I am pasting these here:

They should slowly pull back damage.

First, with obviously Inquisitor’s Ire, a 30-40% PvP damage nerf is probably fine here as it’s a supplemental ability that should prioritize AoE damage and also has high synergy with Empyrean. Another supplemental ability, Divine Arbiter is pushing the burst over the edge. I would reduce Arbiter PvP damage by 10%, it’s a final tier ability and with the next line of nerfs below, I don’t think this will seem all that OP.

Final Verdict PvP damage by about 10-15% because of the range, insta bursting people for 170k is pure meme. For JV, reduce the stun portion increase to like 10-15% (a 10-15% nerf). Another intelligent line of balancing would just be to reduce Wings damage gain by 5-10% since they foolishly reduced the CD by 60 seconds and didn’t suspect that might break the class with no changes???

I would reduce Avenging Wrath damage to 10% flat which is still a huge deal on a one minute cooldown, since it’s also increasing crit by 20% or haste by a %. Compare this to like Dark Ascension on Shadow Priest which is a 1 minute cooldown. So our Final Verdict crit with wings went from 170k to 136k, but the supplemental damage of Arbiter and Ire was greatly reduced. From here, you monitor the games and statistics for another week or two and if necessary reduce probably FV/JV PvP damage by another 10-15%.

They took Ret paladin, a class most people just asked for a little better mobility and an actual survival spell that wasn’t garbage/dispellable. So they thought a “rework” would be cool. They provided Divine Protection… but also various stamina buffs, armor buffs, healing buffs, insta casts, life leech, buffed Sacred Shield (this was fine), put wings at 60 seconds (would be fine if they just reduced the damage as well), allowed range bursting and a ton of talents that supplement that burst with even more burst than they had before (which they were trying to nerf at the start of the expansion LOL). They didn’t playtest it, there are many bugs still that I and others have pointed out. They didn’t just think how much stronger Ret is with their changes to where the data showed them before. Stop doing clueless, swingy changes without thinking of the repercussions or the cycle will simply continue forever.

Thoughts?

Oh btw, don’t get me wrong, I am loving it, I love having my class be fun again that I’ve played since BC, and enjoying cleaving people to 2.7k rating but this company is just sad sometimes. You get broken stuff like this which I’ll play the hell out of, but then they will ruin my other class, Shadow Priest, with one of their horrid rework ideas that will swing the opposite way cus it’s a coinflip when you throw **** at the wall with no thought or logical approach.

I see nerfs coming I just hope if they do it’s not to the play style. I haven’t had this much fun on Ret since Wotlk. Feels so good to play ret again and have fun. I love the speed at which holy power comes.

I was feeling this way today that Nerfs should happen for ret, then after playing higher end ratings I could see just how bursty one shot a number of other classes can be, and i stopped feeling that way. So no i hope they don’t get nerfed, this shake up is needed.

You can’t have a class with no gap closer or mortal strike effect and balance it alongside classes that do, without making a ton of pvp modifiers.

They need to fix the bugs in the tree first and buff other talents damage (csaa and ts) first, then they can worry about nerfing us.

In other words move the damage to other skills for sustain rather then burst.

PvE Ret should not be touched at all. It is literally in the perfect position currently. You can not both AoE and ST, you have to spec into the one you want to do. Overall they average in the middle of the pack with being 6/7 in ST. There is no reason PvE should be touched at all because people are crying about getting 1 shot in PvP.

Sigh.

Why should Blizzard nerf our damage? We do no more damage than Warriors, Rogues, Evokers, etc.

But doing so for 153k(10% nerf) isn’t? Lol

Let me guess, this was higher ratings on your ret paladin? Higher than you have been before the ret rework?

So 170k is meme, but 140k mortal strike with gap closing is fine.

Ret players have stockholm syndrome and just seem to accept that their place is always in the bottom half.

Yes, players are crying about ret without allowing time to learn to counter it. Yes, in the past, this is all it takes for Blizzard to curb stomp ret. And as long as you just accept that, it will never be different.

They just need to look at blessing of the dawn double stacking and inquisitors ire with empyrean power all stacking up at once

Why snip out a little piece of the post to make a point? Try reading the whole thing and do math on Avenging Wrath nerfs. FYI, Holy Power are comparable to combo finishers, compare them to Ferocious Bite and full buff Eviscerates.

Clearly they were OP. Hence the nerfs.
