Do not Acquire Target When Being Attacked

Good evening fellow WoW players,

I’m a newly returning player to WoW; I’m wondering if there is any way to disable the ‘mildly annoying’ feature in which my character will automatically acquire the target of whatever is attacking him/her.

Ideally , I want to ignore whatever is hitting me & sticking to my primary target is preferred. Is this functionality possible? I have combed through all of the cvars, add-ons, the stackexchange gaming forum, Reddit, and now I am here lol.

sounds like you need to enable sticky targeting

Is that what it would be? Possibly! I just want it so no game entity has the means to change my target…

I can’t think of anything that CAN do that tbh, you should only auto-target an attacker if you don’t currently have anything targeted.

Just keep the cursor targeted on yourself.

I think taunts used to force a target change many years ago, but I have no idea if it’s something that still happens. Otherwise I agree, nothing I know of in this game can force a target change like OP is describing.

It shouldn’t switch targets on you unless you actively change it.

  • If you don’t have a target, then it will pick up whatever hits you.
  • If you do have a target, then it shouldn’t change.
  • If you click on something else, then it will target that.
  • If sticky targeting is disabled and you click on the ground, then it will clear your target.
  • If sticky targeting is enabled and you click on the ground, then your target remains the same.
  • If you hit the tab key, then it will target something near you. Tab targeting prefers close things in front of you.
  • If you hit the escape key, then it will clear your target.
  • Macros can also pick up or clear targets.
  • Clicking on a unit frame will select that target.

That’s all the ways I can think of to change a target. It shouldn’t happen automatically though, except if you don’t have a target at all.

Right, thanks I don’t want it picking targets when I don’t have a target…finding that annoying in 2020 WoW. Thank you regardless!
