Started playing again a few weeks ago and as a mage I feel like I cant survive anything… I get 100 to 0 by anyone thats not a mage or priest… its infuriating to get wrecked instantly without being able to do anything.
Everyone has a pull if I blink away or some kind of stun lock… I use my trink + racial to get out of them but then im instantly ccd again and just melted away regardless.
Im still learning and I might be under geared… im sitting at 330 ilvl atm… so before I give up on pvp entirely with mage outside of arenas and reroll a different class… do I just suck and need to keep grinding it out and learning everything I can? Or save myself the heartache and roll a heavy?

I really depends on who you fight, I have difficulty staying on an ice, arcane mage…they can do well kiting.

You need to use your skillset and although there is scaling, at 330 you might not even have the best traits for your spec. (Which I cannot see for some reason)
Are you LOSing, are you shimmer casting? I played fire and you need to set up burst windows where trinket is down and you can take someone out pretty fast.
Takes practice and realizing that you arn’t going to sit in the middle of a BG and own faces like a ret or a DH>

Usually im caught in the open in wpvp so cant los. Even when prepared and initiating I end up on the backfoot.
I try to shimmer cast but usually im caught in a funnel of cc’s or get insta pulled back while they are frozen…
I was just hella upset that I kept getting insta killed.
Well read up on the guides and how to set up a kill; a mage cannot make mistakes as easily as a lot of other classes. You need to be technical and when I was playing my fire one; would have to set it up so they guy couldn’t stop a meteor, GPYRO, instant spam burst; means knowing if he blew his trinket or other get out of jail cards.
Gotta use everything at your disposal but above all have a gameplan ahead of time for everything whomever your target might throw at you.
I think my mage does fine in WPvP.
If you’re iLevel is still ~330, then I’d say that’s likely a bit of an issue. The majority of people running around these days are pushing 400+ iLevel, which is a good 70 or so iLevel difference. That’s not saying it’s impossible to fight back (Mages [even low iLevel Mages] can wreck), but - if you get hit - you’re going to get hit pretty hard. Besides brushing up on your defensive play and offensive setup, I’d really work on getting geared up. It will make a world of difference.
One more thing: if you’re going out into the world with WM on, buff up and prepare for war (pack some gliders, potions, bombs, skimmers, etc.). WPVP is unforgiving and rewards the prepared.

I engaged a baby 120 Mage today.
He was casting on a Warrior who was afk. I attacked and he immediately Ice Blocked instead of waiting way too long. I stealthed thinking I knew where he was going to Blink. He went the opposite direction and went invisible. I don’t know if it was a spell or potion. All without a bit of hesitation.
Not earth shattering but obviously not new to the Mage game. Mages are fine in the right hands.

Yea mages have invis…
Why is that mage still alive I ask you grit?
Next baby mage you run into you better make candles from their body fat…

He outplayed me!
If he had tried to fight instead of Ice Block immediately he would have been dead in seconds. Instead of blinking towards Guards he blinked to a road where I wasn’t and quickly went invisible. Good playing on his part.

You got me. I’m thinking about playing a Pally so I can protect the weak, bring justice to the unjust, and vanquish evil from the darkest corners of the world.

I haven’t met anyone in wpvp that can solo me. I heal so much between quick thinking, 4 Blinks that heal, my gloves, my Bwomsomdi racial, Regeneratin… Its nuts. Also melee rarely touch you.
Mages are a mid tier 1v1 class now since we don’t have a stun or spammable heal, you need to take specific talents and traits for dueling people.
mages have alot of talents you can use which make them really good in 1v1s but the talents are worthless in arena.
people over look talents like frostbite and iceform and using normal blink vs melee in 1v1s because they are bad choices for 3v3, you also have to do goofy stuff like use coastal surge and have 3/3 cauterizing blink traits or the extra absorb traits.
fire is better vs other range because of gpryo spam

Half of the things you said i didn’t understand so imma have to do a lot of reading and googling lol.
In rbgs ive kinda come to the conclusion that frost mage is only there for cc and annoyance purposes… im not sure how much gear matters in rbg but I can literally stand there and spam my rotation and peeps just tank it while fighting others… lol
im 347 ilvl
Mages and pallies are tasty
Its true… Cata mages were awesome… now i feel like a utility class that cant do any real damage.
Its just you. Mages are good
Poly , Gypro, shimmer, poly , Gypro, poly, Gypro ., Fire Mage do fine in 1-1 especially when they get the jump on you.
