I finished the entire campaign on my first level 70 character. I unlocked adventure mode and am now leveling my priest. Is there any reason aside from just reputation for me to do the main story campaign?
I got the same question, any answers?
You can pretty much do whatever you want. A lot of rep perks are account wide, so you dont really need to grind certain reps unless there is something specific you need on a char. So with adventure mode, if there is one rep, that has something specific for a profession on your char, you can level by focusing on that one zone.
Or you can just wing it. The story campaign is an easy way to level, because its just a linear path that takes you through places. But no, after completing the campaign, you can just level however you want on your alts.
The renown on my second character did not carry over to my alt.
You can, but you do not have to. Every faction is open from the get go, you just have to interact with relevant questgivers of a given faction to âunlockâ them
Renown is not carried over between characters though so it may still be worth doing the quests
I donât even have the campaign markers on my alts maps so I thought we were just locked out from doing the story again at all. Is this not the case? How can I get the main campaign quests to show up on my alts map if so?
My alt is 62 and will there be some kind of punishment if I do t do the campaign? Or can I just do dungeons and pvp??
I did the whole campaign on my main. I have the world quests and such on my alts on the map just fine, but a LOT of the quest givers and rep things seem to be behind story-line walls. Not sure if there is a guide out there yet on like what quest to get wrathion et all unlocked without having to do the whole quest chain-if that is even a thing. Itâs definitely not like fated leveling because so much is still locked behind quest lines. The rep rewards seem to be account bound but not the rep itself if that is a confusion. I am just waiting on an alt flight-path map or something along with the ability to have major flight paths/rep vendors unlocked without doing the whole campaign again.
so you can just do the side quests for rep for each faction?
This is what IS account wide renown unlockedâŚ
(not counting any dragonriding skin junk)
Dragonscale Expedition
- Renown 2 - Expedition Scout pack treasures can be found around the Dragon Isles.
- Renown 5 - Buried Treasures - Ability to find and dig through Disturbed Dirt mounds as long as you possess an Expedition Shovel, purchasable at the Dragonscale Basecamp from Pathfinder Jeb.
- Renown 16 - Bagic Bound Chests - Ability to open Magic Bound Chests as long as you possess an Echanted Lockpicks, purchaseable from Pathfinder Jeb in the Dragonscale Basecamp.
Iskaara Tuskarr
- Renown 3 - Community Feasts - Unlock Community Feasts, allowing you to partake and contribute to the great tuskarr feasts earning rep and a well deserved food buff.
Maruuk Centaur
- Renown 4 - Call of the Plains â The Aylaag Nomads will welcome you into their camp, wherever it happens to be.
- Renown 5 - Call of the Hunt - Join the hunt alongside the Shikaar centaurs!
Valdrakken Accord
- Renown 5 - Siege on Dragonbane Keep - Unlock the Siege on Dragonbane Keep in the Waking Shores.
- Renown 7 - Aerial Challenges - Unlock Dragonriding World Quests around the Dragon Isles.
Everything else you have to renown unlock per character.
In the end it depends on what is on the renown vendor that your alt might want.
IMO get your main to renown 10 before you do any alts, it gives your alts double faction hits with the renowns (up to renown 10 on the alts). Even more faction once you get to 20 renown as well.
If you want to level an alt and one rep has something you want on that char, just do all the quests in that zone. You dont have to do the main story over and over again once you do it the first time. You can, but you can also focus on a zone.
Im doing 1 alt in each zone. Just for a little more flavor.
get BTWQuests add on it shows all quest lines on your map as markers, its super helpful.
So any of the new campaign isnt relevant for alts either?
As far as I can tell, ârelevantâ is more âit dependsâ. I find XP is better if you do main questline for leveling (If you donât do dungeons), the rep is easier to get but order matters not a bit, which is nice.
Rep means recipes if your alt is a crafter. Not being in the dungeon crawl set, I donât know what the rep of dungeons is, so I canât speak to that.
But Iâve not found any issues with leveling my alts as my mood and time allowed and havenât noticed any âmust havesâ.
Only issue Iâve seen is in Iskaara, certain NPCs donât show up until youâve done part of the Azure Span story.
The blue dragon questline can be picked up on alts at the top of the tower in the capital and it will auto-complete the azure span questline if you havenât done it already,
(It rewards a few flightstones along the way, but the main reason I did it again is for the bonus questline at the end for characters who have the the old Firelands legendary staff; it gives a mount version of the staffâs dragon-transformation effect)
And to Olanidaâs point - if you still do the feast event, one of the tuskarr vendors you might be sent to for a task doesnât actually offer anything for sale unless you have completed their questline. A rare brick wall you might hit.

Hi all!
I know this is an old post, but it is still relevant and so Iâll share my experience and suggestions.
For starters, my main has completed mostly every story line campaign max rep etc. up to Dragonflight, and after all these years (since the game launched) WoW is still one of my favorite games of all time, and still has the most awesome, epic stories and music when it comes to the world of games.
As for the Alt skipping unnecessary quests, the one thing I find a bit tedious in WoW is having to re-do the entire, exact campaign on my Alt characters, especially when I have 7 favs I like to level up and play which also have their own crafting professions. Although there are some things we can skip on our alts, we canât skip some core parts of the story, and doing it over 7 times is rather ridiculous and a bit much.
My Suggestions for Blizzard for WoW Alt Characters:
I really hope Blizzard seriously considers allowing players who have completed everything on their main character to bypass the tedious, grindy story quests and instead have the playerâs Alt characters do world quest etc. as an alternative.
So basically, once the playerâs main character completes all main quests and storylines in the game, the playerâs Alt character should be given a special quest option to opt out of all main and story line quests and skip right into world quests so the catch up is not so ridiculously grindy and time consuming for the Alt character to enjoy the latest updates in the game, especially after the Alt reaches max level.
Relevant and or important Quests could still be done by the Alt if the player chooses, or if necessary. The Alt would still need to earn some renown as it is now, minus the repeat of the entire story line and core quests that maybe required to progress in the game.
Thatâs all for now. Keep up the good works, Blizzard Team! WoW is always epic fun! Thank you!
Cheers! - JJ -
